Only P4 has Hyper-threading and VT± question?

1. Current Intel CPU, we don't see any Hyper theading features.
Is this be replaced with other else Intel's technology?

2. Why there is a suffix "±" of VT?
Is there a special maning of VT±?

3. Feature of VT doesn't exist in every Intel's CPU, how to make a rule to know that CPU has VT?
 
i think of HT as a pre-sucessor to multie core, now with dual / quad cores, HT has no use.
 
i think i have seen it announced or speculated a few times that processors will have hyperthreading but when they come out they dont.
it made single core cpus runs more smoothly, but its probably not that important for multi core.
 
I don't think H/T was useless, I think it was just ahead of its time, and poorly utilized.

I would like to see it again in new processors, but not at the cost of heat or other performance shortfalls.
 
I agree with Simpson5774. Even Intel knew HT in the P4's wasn't optimal, but they are working on it for future processors.

For desktop chips, VT is only in the E/Q6000 series chips, with Conroe cores. The Allendale chips (E2000 and E4000 series) lack VT.

Any added instructions and thereby use of more transistors is going to produce heat :p
