Only one program plays audio?

I have a Gateway PC with onboard audio. I disable the onboard audio in the BIOS and installed a SB Live! card.

The card only works with one program at a time. For example, if I am listening to winamp and try to play a game then the game either has no sound or says there is no device available. If I close winamp then sound works in the game.

This occurs no matter what combination of programs I have open. The first one I use is always the only one that has sound.

I have made sure the onboard audio is disabled and it is not listed in my hardware profile, I have the latest drivers and have tried swapping slots with the SB card just see if there was another conflict. Windows sound control also has been set to use the SB card.

Any idea why I can only use one program at once with sound? This card worked fine in my old PC.
