Only boots through Smart boot manager...

So I was looking around Ultimate Boot CD for a program to format by user defined sectors and I honestly did not think that I did anything except load and look at programs, but.. apparently I did.

When trying to boot from my only HDD I get the "Error cannot load operating system" message. When going into Smart Boot Manager in the UBCD and selecting the primary partition I can boot into windows just fine.

Soo, how would I go about fixing this?

Thanks a ton!

Not feeling like doing that much work... Sounds like a boot record issue.
But I guess if I have to

what OS?
in XP, boot into the recovery console
fixboot
fixmbr

or is it fixmbr first? can't remember..

if Win7/Vista, can't you boot off the disc and have it do it's own check? I know Win7 does anyway.

XP home Premo

MSCONFIG said boot paths were fine so I didn't try that, but I will. Would be different I guess

Did not work!

damn

Might try format and restore via Acronis, but the only backup I have is with things messed up so I doubt that would help.

system restore is easy as hell to do takes acouple of minutes..
.pick one just before the messup

If you meant you tried restore already please disregard my post goodluck..

Being the only partition, I have no option of selecting its activity
