Only 16 colors...

I wiped my HD and then installed Windows 98. the problem is I can't run any games because they all require 256 colors. I don't have the option to get 256 colors so what do i do?
 
You haven't installed your video card driver... that is why your limited to 16 colors. If you haven't done this... there's a good chance you haven't installed your mainboard drivers either. I reconmend installing your mainboard drivers first, then the latest version of DIRECT X, and then your video card driver. If your not sure what video card or mainboard you have let us know. We'll help you identify them. :cool: By the way... a mod should probally move this thread to general hardware.
 
I have all the drivers installed. I dont have a video card, but I am getting one from a friend tommorrow. I'm not sure what motherboard I ahve, it came on a computer i got from a friend.
 
So right now your using onboard video... hmmm .... try reinstalling the drivers ... or just wait till tommorow and make sure you install the right drivers with that card... just be sure to deactivate the onboard video when you do that

win 98 always defaults to 16 colors and 640X480 when its using its default display driver ... i can't think of any other explanations .. good luck
