I am about to get a 2.4 Ghz S754 up and folding, the problem is I only have 128 MB of ram to put into it. What OS would you recommend I fold on, like what minimal version of linux without graphics distribution do you recommend I run it on?

thanks,
Zack

All the cool kids seem to like ubuntu for linux, but I'm no real expert. Personally I'd throw win98 or 2k on there, but that's cause I'm a linux n00b.

Foldix is a livecd, so you don't have to install it on the hard drive. I couldn't figure out how to put in my own folding username when I tried, so just gave up and put 2k on my old box.

If it is folding only, use foldix. It's free and small. Auto installs and is command line only so nothing is hogging cycles. A 2 gig HD would be overkill. :D

*warning* The install CD auto formats the primary drive on the system.....so be freakin careful with it. ;)

Foldix is not a live cd. Overclockix for folding is a live CD.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I'll just stick to windoze from now on.

Incidentally, does foldix or overclockix support the SMP client yet?

Is foldix for the x86 architecture, or does it support A64 also? I was planning on installing it tomorrow when my ram gets here on 64-bit S754.

thanks,
Zack

A64 IS x86 ;)

Not sure if it supports native 64bit processing or not....paging mr. mage ;)

I mean, you know how like on linux distribution pages

you can choose to download
i386 or A64

I foldix 32 bit and operate as 386, or will it be Athlon 64 bit enabled?

thanks,
Zack

just giving you a hard time ;)

And again, this is a question for mr. mage...he posted in another thread

As far as I know, foldix is only 32 bit. 64 bit would be somewhat overkill as Stanford hasn't released a client that takes advantage of 64 bit extensions at this time.
