Been researching online storage solutions for personal use and can't seem to find an objective article on the different backup services out there.

Been looking at sugersync in particular but would like to hear recommendations from others who have used online storage. Looking for a reliable and secure service.

Thanks!

What are you actually going to be using the online storage for?

Streaming?
Backup?
Sharing?
Other?

Some things are better suited for a specific role.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry my apologies. I was not aware that there were different services out there for backups, sharing, etc.

OK, I will be using it to store and retrieve files in case my primary hard drive fails. No sharing, just storage.

Forgot to mention, probably need unlimited file size and around 100 to 150 GB storage space.

I use iDrive to backup pictures, home movies, important documents, etc. Works pretty well and is secure from what I can tell. Does backups up changed files and versioning.

Looks like backblaze is for backups.

So iDrive and Suger Sync in the lead. Anyone use SugerSync?

I used SugarSync eight or nine months ago. Back then, the Windows client was absolutely terrible. It may have improved since then, but tread with caution.

Doesn't sound like iDrive is the way to go,

From SmallCloudBuilder.com:
"Mac OS users are left out in the cold in this department, with no encryption options available for storage."

Any experience with Mozy? Been reading some good reviews on it. Read that Mozy also uses a public/private key and files are encrypted before transmission.

I've got 200GB on S3 using Cloudberry and could not be happier. I prefer to decouple the storage from the backup agent.

VERY Interesting! I hadn't seen this option yet...

I've gotten back into Windows Live Mesh.
I synch 3x computers with it...my two laptops, and my office rig.
Not sure what exact features or size you're looking for.

5 gigs of online storage.
Fast synch...simple to setup.

And what I like...the built in remote desktop proxy...you can connect to your computers using remote desktop client, don't need to dork with firewalls, port forwarding, know the IP address, etc. And it's buttery smooth remote desktop....working well with dual monitors too!

It wants you to install Windows Live..you can easily do a custom install so you can kick the Bing toolbar and Windows Search to the curb.
Yeah...free..and works!

I use a combination-
Spideroak (think dropbox) for syncing folders across multiple systems
Backblaze for dumping off my fileserver
NAS stuck at my parents for site to site.
