OnePlus Three ( 2016 )

Supposed prices for OP3:

The OnePlus 3 might be incredibly cheap, new leak suggests

According to sources from China who talked to MobiPicker, OnePlus will have four distinct options for buyers, offering them two RAM choices (4GB or 6GB) and two storage options (32GB and 64GB). Here are the pricing details:

  • OnePlus 3 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage: $349 (CNY 2299)
  • OnePlus 3 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage: $379 (CNY 2499)
  • OnePlus 3 6GB of RAM, 32GB of storage: $409 (CNY 2699)
  • OnePlus 3 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage: $425 (CNY 2799)

Will resellers grab them all right away?

I don't see why as they will be available with invite so the allure of not being able to get one goes away and you are left with a phone with decent specs, marginal software and a good price.

I think I'm sitting this one out and will buy one later from Swappa if it turns out to be a decent phone.

supposedly will have Sony IMX298 rear camera with OIS. Glad to see that it is using a Sony sensor but I wonder how it compares to the others and how good OP camera algorithms are now. My OPO takes great pix in good lighting but in low light situations it is mediocre

EDIT:

Well after a quick search I found this comparing the 2 sensors. Looks to me that the sony sensor in the S7 and the IMX298 are pretty evenly matched
Samsung Galaxy S7 Britecell vs Sony IMX260 sensors, Low Light Comparison

The hardware on the OnePlus phones has been OK it's their software that has been marginal at best. OOS Marshamallow sounds like it is getting released OTA and should give a better idea of what to expect on the OP3.

I wouldn't hold my breath that the OP3 software experience will be any better.

My wife has received the MM update on her OPO. Its better than the lollipop build but one thing I will say their Camera software sucks! I don't care what sensor is on the camera, they need a better software. I had to resort to buying Snap Camera app which is now what CM13 stock camera is based on.

Nowadays the camera sensor matters less than the software (camera app, post processing, etc) behind it. All OnePlus phones have had decent sensors its just the software that sucked.

Most recent version of Oxygen OS sounds like it still has issues

Actually looking pretty good, like a larger HTC 10, and with a 3,450Mah battery and 1080p screen, I'll guess pretty sweet battery life.

OnePlus Three spec's = 5.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. Under the hood you'll find the Snapdragon 820 chipset with a quad-core 2.15GHz CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU. 4GB/6GB of RAM is inside along with 32GB/64GB/128GB of native storage. A 16MP camera will be found on back with an 8MP selfie shooter in front. A 3450mAh battery will keep the lights on, and a fingerprint scanner will be embedded in the home button. Android 6.0.1 is pre-installed.

My biggest gripes with OPO are the slow Android updates. I recall Lollipop taking for god damn ever to officially make it out for the original One, like 6 months, or you could install the alpha CM11 at the time, which was pretty buggy until the bugs were worked out obviously.

This OnePlus Three will be lucky to see Android N within 90 days after the Nexus phones get it first in October, or you can install the alpha CM14 sooner on it, and live through all the kinks and bugs, that will have for a little while.

I thought one of the big features on these OPO phones being AOSP based, would have been super fast Android updates, not Nexus fast updates obviously, but at least faster than the skinned versions of Android like HTC, LG, Samsung, etc... but that hasn't been the case.

The big issue. Great flagship hardware for a budget price. Beautiful design.

But...software is really amateur for an official professional phone release. I'd rather Cyanogen be back on board creating a stable pro CM13S for this phone. Oxygen OS still seems like some weekend development project.

You never leave stock ROMs on your phones, so what does it matter?

I think we can see a return to the opo type bang for your buck with this phone. The confirmed 1080p oled with almost a 3500mah battery and 820 should make a good combo. Lets just hope the software is better. Oxygen os for the 6.0 is much better but i will play a wait and see. Is there a sd card slot. The 4gb and 64gb storage with an sd card alot is all i need.

Ugh those 3,500mAh battery rumors were wrong :( This phone with a 3,000mAh will be ok, probably good battery life, but nothing amazing.

Large phones should get larger batteries. Why do the smaller Galaxy S7 and HTC 10 have 3,000mAh batteries, but bigger phones like S7 Edge or Nexus 6P have 3,600mAh and 3,450mAh sized batteries respectively. The OnePlus Three should at least be matching those other similar sized phone batteries.

Plus the overall design screams of HTC + Galaxy Note design. The rear and sides look like an HTC One design, and the front screams Galaxy Note 3 / 4 design. That cheesy chrome ring around the home button is so lame looking. Should have put the fingerprint scanner on the rear. I still say the original OnePlus One was their main hit, and since then their other phones not nearly as cool. I still have the original OPO, running the latest CM13 ROM, it's my backup phone, and still a pretty bad ass phone today with CM13, I see zero reason to get this THREE, I'd rather get the Nexus 6P when it goes on fire sale in Aug / Sept for like $299, or spend a few more bucks in September and get the new HTC Nexus-N phone.

3000mah in a 5.5" screen? Even if it's 1080p, that's ridiculous.

That's the smallest battery yet for their main OPO phones. The One had a 3,100mAh battery, and the Two had a 3,300mAh battery, so I was hoping the Three would then be 3,500mAh, which would've made this phone very desirable. But at 3,000mAh, no USB-C, no waterproof, and Oxygen OS with very slow update record, I have to pass on this.

Fail, no MicroSD...Every other 2016 flagship has one. Why on earth would they skip that??? it's such a simple feature.. I would have been right in line to buy one, but now no... gah! It even supports dual sims....why couldn't they have just made one of those slots an optional SD reader like many other dual sim phones....double gah!

This seems to be my lot in life when it comes to phones. Most phones always are missing one feature that other phones have but they don't.

I'm giving it a go and if worse comes to worse I can give it to my Kids and find something else.

I'd rather spend $100 more on a HTC 10. But I seriously need a dual sim phone.

Seems like a great device for the price. About to pull the trigger, but updates worries a bit. Not sure about the TM wifi calling as well..

Read about the OP3 on TmoNews earlier, and it doesn't have WiFi calling, in addition to it having VoLTE capability, but isn't officially supported.

I would hold off. An update just broke my Wife's O+O using Tmobile. It will not register LTE. Also their MM update has alot of bugs. Doze does not work correctly, and there are other bugs. If you want wifi calling or Tmoblie VOLTE stick with 6P or HTC 10, Samsung S7/edge etc...

Same here. I want a dual sim phone so I can pop my work sim into it along side my personal. I have no idea how people give out there personal numbers at work.

Honestly, if this phone gets more than 3 hrs of SOT I will be happy. My biggest concerns are the software.

Besides this, what other dual sim phones are you considering?

Apparently the battery life is quite decent. >5h SOT somewhat heavy usage and not every possible thing turned off to save battery.

All of the reviews seem to be positive for this phone. I have a OnePlus 2 and am yearning for the OnePlus 3 because of the great reviews. I'm waiting to see a more in-depth camera comparison with other flagship phones.

Yeah that's because they boast 6GB of RAM but don't let you use it all...

The OnePlus 3 doesn't take advantage of all its RAM - Co-Founder explains why

Why would I buy a phone with all that RAM and not be able to use it? Man...OnePlus simply can't release a phone without fucking something up horribly.

I love their answer: use a custom ROM if you want to use all the RAM. Seriously? -.-

They should tell the oxygen team to build different modes that users could select.

1. Battery saver
2. Balanced
3. Power user

Oppo should pull the plug on Cai Pei. He's seriously an idiot. Jobs or Legere he is not.

The problem with custom roms is that none of them are ever as stable or predictable as stock. That's a fact. The only "custom" roms that are stable, are the debloated stock roms and they arent really custom rom's at all. The kiddies might be OK with buying a cheap phone to mess with because they cant afford the S7 and HTC10 but the mature crowd that wants a cheap phone that works will not. IMHO the mature crowd probably makes up the majority of their target market and its those same people that could buy an S7 or an HTC10 that O+ should want to buy their phone instead. But who the hell will if the phone doesnt work right.

Carl is losing his mind again:

Within the comments section on that post on the Redditt AMA, a Redditor made the remark that the panel was not up to par because the company was purchasing Samsung panels “on a discount”. Carl Pei responded, claiming this was untrue and also went on to mention how he was “sick and tired” of criticisms such as this one.

I’m sick and tired of sentiment like this. It may not seem so, but for a product company — it’s insulting.

It started with the OnePlus One, people trying to find explanations and faults that could have led to its reasonable price. People were complaining about screen variance (visible and common for LCDs, search for “iPhone yellow blue screen” images), vibration motor, and cheaper NAND, etc. Looking for any explanation, and quick to jump on bandwagons and to conclusions.

With our relationships in the supply chain, we know the BOM (bill of materials) of all other flagships. Out of all the devices that the OnePlus 3 gets compared to, it is one of, if not the most expensive to make. Do you think the price delta between a 2K AMOLED and a 1080p AMOLED is huge? It’s a product decision, and spec by spec is not how to judge a product. The OnePlus 3 uses latest generation AMOLED made to our specifications by Samsung. The vast majority of our users, and reviewers love Optic AMOLED. It is NOT tuned to sRGB, and was never meant to be. sRGB tuning is a niche requirement and is not the right choice for the vast majority of smartphone users. Why do you think it’s hidden under developer settings on the 6P? For those who need it, we’ve taken note, and have added it to the next OTA.

They are apparently working on sRGB mode and better RAM management.

Well, mine came in today, somehow. Like a week ahead of the delivery estimate.

Except I haven't migrated my line yet since I'm switching carrier. So no cell service yet.

Going from a rooted Galaxy S3 with a custom ROM to this. It's pretty nice, posting from it for good measure.

I'll wait till the sRGB mode and better RAM management update to come out before saying absolutely no to this one. No Wifi calling or VoLTE on TMo are the other reasons for me to say no. But not completely taking it off the list. We just don't have many choices on good dual sim phones.

Couldn't resist. Picked one up from Swappa for $410 with the Sandstone and Karbon cases included. I have owned the One, Two and X previously so I figured why not try the Three.

Gives me something to play with until the Note 7 and HTC Nexus phones come out.

I switched to T-Mobile tonight with mine.

VoLTE does in fact work fine.

I doubt you are going to get sRGB unless its a community patch.

How much of an issue is the ram management actually?

Not surprised here.
