After several years of folding, and finally getting everything working correctly, I'm going to hit a million points. Tomorrow! :) It's weird that I've been borging so many PC's and trying to get everything working, and now I'm hitting the big one!

I've been pushing more points in the past few weeks than I ever have. Those GPU's really crank out the WU's!

Now, an idea. I'm planning on making a decent powered server for home. Nothing really high powered, but enough. And since it's not using too much power itself, I should make it for a folding box. It's going to be a dual core AMD CPU. I'm thinking of grabbing an NVIDIA 9800GTX to put in it just for folding. Should help out a lot. The server is going to be on 24x7 (like my other PC's!), and should put out quite a bit for just sitting there!

Any recommendations on a cheap (somewhat) AM2 motherboard that will take a Phenom x4 and MAYBE (longshot here) an SLI config? I'd go ATI, but it's only for folding so I want the highest powered GPU's I can get. Dedicated folder. The server is going to be headless, so the GPU's are 100% folders. The CPU will be folding as well, but it will be doing double duty.

Putting together the spec's right now. Rack mount case (Norco).

If you're not going to actually run 2 cards in SLI, any motherboard with multiple PCI-E slots will work fine.

The OctoBox I just finished building is an MSI Socket AM2 Crossfire board running 4 9800GX2s in it.

edit - old box was QuadBox, new box is OctoBox

Oh, hell. Sweet, then! :)

That will make it a lot easier!

Thanks for the info!

Congrats on the 1mil! I recently cracked it myself after over 4 years of folding, and it's certainly a good feeling to know that you've really made a significant contribution to the project :).
Too bad it has SB600.
Not an issue for a folding box though.

Too bad it has SB600. Foxconn Destroyer is a 780a based board with the same layout, but haven't heard much about it and it's twice the price.

southbridge doesn't matter for a folding box. This board is extremely stable. ie weeks of uptime.

Southbridge matters if you want to do any overclocking with a phenom. How many of us don't overclock our crunchers/folders?

That's true, but compared to the ability to add more video cards, the point boost from a higher-clocked CPU isn't that significant. It depends on specifically how the box will be set up for F@H.

True and it show's how much this project is changed in the last few years...

Who doesn't like a high scoring game? Maybe they raised the point values to appeal to more people.

They raised the points value because the SMP and GPU clients complete units much faster than the uniprocessor client. Although there are definitely issues with the scoring system, there is no doubt that the current high-performance clients are significantly more efficient than the older one.
