One last cry for help....

I've been so frustrated. Here's the deal.

3500 64 Winnie -Tested and works
160 gig seagate - Tested and works
2 op drives - Tested and works
1 gig G. Skill Mem. - Tested and works
x800xl 256 pci-e - Tested and works
VNF4 Ultra (I know I'm retarded) - Potential problem
Raid Max ATX 12V Power 450w 20 pin- Potential problem

I initially put it together with no 20-24 converter and pluged in that extra 4 pin power and it worked until I shipped it. Since then i've tested everything and the mobo and power suply is all thats left. When it boots i get no video (SUPRISE!!) which happened to me before, but i plugged the 4 pin in the first time and it worked, but now, no such luck. It got me thinking that maybe the pci-e slot is messed up, but I'm not quite ready to commit to that yet. I'm wondering if I get that converter, will it make the difference. I know this psu is crap and i know i should have got the converter to begin with but I'm ready to anything at this point and time.

Anyone out there, your help will make my day :*(

I'm currently running my vnf4ultra on a thermaltake silent purepower( my tagan 480w died)420w psu(18a 12v), with 20 pins only. It's running a 6600gt, 1gb ram, 1hd, and one dvd-rw.

It works on 20 pins fine. If you don't have enough 12v amps, it may have issues, how much do you have?

How many amps does your 12v rail have, it should say on the psu's side. It should have at least 18a to work with a complete system?

under the +12v it says 14.0A. but this psu had been working for almost 2 months until now

I read the specs and i checked out the psu faq and I'm wondering how it ever worked to begin with. Also I noticed the red switch on the back of my psu and it was a 115v mode and a 230v mode, could this make any difference.

Usually they say if you're using a 20 pin get one with high 12v amps to make up for the 4 missing pins(IIRC), but mine works with 18a(haven't really done much though).

thats my psu and my specs listed above have been the same since day one.

do you think the converter would do that trick?

What do you mean by "shipped"? If you sent it by fedex/ups, it may have been "killed" in transit by rough handling.

I doubt a converter would help, my vnf4ultra seems to work as well with 24 pins or 20 pins.
A more powerful psu may help.

Could the psu have failed? My tagan 480w psu just failed. Both psu fans worked, all system and cpu fans worked, all leds worked but no go. It seemed ok, but replacing it fixed the problem.

Life is pain. I just threw in an Antec 430w true power 12v 2.0 with 17A. This one has 24 pins and the 4 pin pci-e power, but it has a 6pin power cord that says PCI-e on it. Fans and lights, no video.
