Hey guys I'm wondering if an AMD 7970 would get a good frame rate on a game like battlefield 3 running 5760x1080 on ultra? Thanks!

define good frame rate. I get 55 fps on low settings yet I consider it good despite having 120Hz monitors because its a smooth consistent with very few dips. Ideally I would want at least 120 fps but despite having tri-fired 7970s, it looks choppy despite the 140+ frames that is reported. Turns out my problem is having non-matching screens.

Not on ultra. You'll have to step it down a notch or plan buy another 7970. 7950 CFX might do ok, but it would depend on the OC.

Judging by the performance it is getting on Ultra in reviews at that resolution, I would say it would probably be playing at High or Medium at that resolution. I wish reviews would show us how it performs on the lower settings.

I play BF3 with these settings card 1125/1800 and is playable.

You are going to need 2 7970's to play BF3 5760 X 1080 on ultra.

I had 2 6970's and was struggling then upgraded to a 6990 + 6970 (which is equivalent to 2 7970's) to be able to play on ultra.

How much vram are you guys using at this resolution in ultra or even high/medium?

Ok...but what is your frame rate? Playable to you is more than likely unplayable for most [H] users here because I doubt that a single HD 7970 could run BF3 at 5760x1080 at Ultra settings with any more than maybe ~33 avg/43 max FPS (according to Hardware Heaven). I know many [H] users, including myself, view anything below 50-60 FPS average as unplayable for competitive multiplayer games.

I get 6080x1200 40-50 fps on Ultra, FXAA High/SSAO. 1125/1575 OC. Depends on the map and # of players. I only play in 16 or 32 player servers.

Yeah, I would say any of the newer titles, especially BF3 you are going to want Crossfire with Eyefinity. That's why I never had a problem with Nvidia requiring SLI for Surround....one card for me just wouldn't cut it framewise.

That is my EXACT current setup. A single 7970 and 3 24" screens. I get 45-65 FPS in BF3 on Ultra Textures AA High everything else on medium and SSAO. Game looks and plays fantastic. Every other game I can max out besides Metro of course.
I play with a SINGLE card. Do not listen to them up there. All the new titles play on high-Ultra with NO issues. The only one that's somehow stressful is BF3 and Metro 2033 and I can run those on High and some ultra with NO issues. $560 doesn't justify the other 15FPS your going to get with a little higher settings in 2 games. Get the one card and enjoy. I came from 2x 570's and Could NOT be happier. You wont be able to Ultra everything, but you get it were it counts like in Textures. Medium -ultra on the rest of the settings isnt even noticeable.

I 2nd that, as thats my exact setup too. I just cant justify $560 for a few frames for 2 games that im already running on almost maxed settings. Fully maxed bf3 on one card still plays at a pretty sold 30 which is playable for some.
