Onboard vs Upgrade on USB

Not sure how to title this topic. Basically, I have the G930 headset, which is 7.1. I'm currently using my onboard audio. My motherboard is an ASUS P5N-E SLI, it's old. I know. Looking to upgrade my system probably later this year.

If I upgraded my soundcard to a PCI-E sound card, would I hear any different quality through my G930 speakers? Or, is the sound processed through different factors when running it through USB?
 
The headset is your soundcard.
You cant change what it is unless you replace it.

You are not using your onboard audio if you are using this headset, they are separate entities.
 
Yes, to build on what Nenu said, the G930 is USB, that means it basically has it's own integrated soundcard, and has nothing to do with your onboard audio. You could disable your onboard audio in your bios and your headset would still function. Similarly, getting a PCIe soundcard would do nothing for you because your sound would still be processed by the built-in USB soundcard in the headset only.

Thank you. This is the reply I was looking for. So, in short, if I have USB speakers or a USB Headset, using the onboard sound or a different sound card is irrelevant. Correct? However, if I switch to using a speaker system that actually utilizes some of the existing ports on my onboard sound vs a PCI-e sound card, I'd hear a difference. Yes/no?

That would really come down to the exact hardware in question, but there is certainly a potential for you to hear a difference.
