Are there any motherboards with a powerful enough onboard video to support 1080p playback?

Gonz, stand aside. I'm going to put the torch to him. Someone get the gasoline please?

No there are none, no motherboards are powerful enough to output video with more bandwidth than 320x240 monochrome.

You'll have to find an amber monitor and a dot matrix printer or it won't work.

Pretty much any mobo with integrated GF8xxx and HD4xxx will do just fine.

Spam?

Check out all the threads by the OP -- seems like a lot of "are there<insert random question> <insert insert topic relating to forum topic> " that would easily be covered by a sticky or a quick google. Almost like someone trying to bump their post count for some weird reason... I hope not, though...

I should have known this forum would waste posts flaming rather than saying yes or no like user "450" did. Some of the motherboards listed in the Ultimate HTPC thread are no longer in stock, some are discontinued, etc.

Searching for information isn't always adequate since posts more than 6 months generally contain outdated information.

No, im not. I'm bored at work and researching some HTPC info for a future build I plan to make. Checked out a few other threads and posted along the way. Relax. I've only posted one other "question"

It maybe outdated but it gives you a general idea and its only 6 months old. It hasnt really change over night

No, you're right, it hasn't changed significantly but I didn't see any harm in asking for some fresh insight to the matter. I've already got the answer I need above so I guess we're done here. Thank you.

Cool it, we're just having fun :-P

That guide is fairly new. Crim made it quite recently and is frequently updating it. As you probably know, nVidia and ATI hasn't been putting out new GPUs for some time anyways.

No offense if you're intending to stick around for the long haul. Since some forums have post requirements, we often see threads that are pretty generic like yours was and it's only purpose is to raise a post count.

Welcome aboard.

Just get an H55 chipset motheboard with one of the core i5 cpu's

Excellent, that will save me some money on a video card then. Already have a PSU and a case to use as well.

I've been lurking the forum for probably 3-6 months before registering, unfortunately that doesn't show anywhere :p. I have been posting my computer related questions on other forums but the answers I get there take much longer because they're not nearly as popular. Thought this would be a good place to go.

I had 2-3 other questions that I actually did resolve with a search but it gets tedious after a while, especially waiting 20 seconds between searches when I type in the criteria wrong sometimes.

Anyway -- glad to be here and thank you all for the help.

If anything new came out to change anything in that guide then I would have updated it (I should change some of the Intel stuff though. They're HTPC ready enough (with some caveats).

It's still a great outline for finding parts.

OP, I just built a super budget HTPC using an ASUS M4A785-M board (AMD 785G NB & HD4200 GPU) and a 2.9GHz X2 245. With 2GB of DDR2, and a old IDE 250GB that I had sitting around, it runs 1080p very smoothly, and does digital audio over HDMI. Works pretty well.

Great, thanks, I'll look into some of those components tomorrow. Haven't used AMD in 4 years or so.
