onboard sound won't keep it's settings?....

Ok so I'm currently using the onboard sound that game with my Gigabyte K8N Pro motherboard (nForce 3 chipset) and whenever I go into a game the windows settings revert back to a 2 speaker setup when I'm running the Klipsch 5.1 Ultras. I'm also using nVidia NVMixer with the most recent drivers installed. In the NVmixer I've got it set up for a 5.1 surround sound set up but then while in the game I lose my settings. The game I'm playing is Renegade and FarCry. Both games do the same thing.

Is there a way to get the nvmixer or windows to lock the settings for me?
