Motherboard specification says:
• Intel® C216 Express chipset
• Intel® HD Graphics 4000P
• Display ports: 1 HDMI, 2 DVI-I (1 supports DVI-D signal only)
• HDMI and DVI display resolution up to 1920x1200
• VGA display resolution up to 2048x1536 pixels with 32-bit color at 75Hz
• Intel® Clear Video Technology
• Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions (Intel® AVX) Instructions
• Supports DirectX 11 and OGL 3.0

I'm going to use XEON E3-1220LV2 CPU, what doesnt contain any on-die graphics capabilities. On the other hand Wikipedia says, that Intel® HD are primaly built-in into CPU.

So when using above mentioned motherboard and this CPU, will I have any graphics capabilities or not ? Or I shoult use discrete gard for graphics ?

BTW graphics is not absolutely necessary for me, I'm going to use this set for server build. I'm explore this only for educational purposes. :)

If you want to use the "onboard" graphics, you'll need a Xeon that has it built in, the ones ending with a 5 instead of a 0 have a gpu included on die. TDP is a bit higher on them of course, but that's the tradeoff.

As ND40oz stated, there is no graphics capability in your particular CPU. Therefore, a discrete graphics card is required if you're going to use the E3-1220LV2.

But what if using motherboard with C216 chipset with E3-1220LV2 ?

Specification of C216 says, that this chipset includes integrated graphics, (also motherboard specification in my previous post shows particular graphics integrated) ?

So, does this mean that
1. C216 itself contains on-die graphics or
2. C216 only able to use graphics inside CPU if available ?

Nearly all server boards have integrated video (separate from the Intel one), so you won't have to worry about it being integrated into the CPU.

He's specifically asking about the Intel one.

And yes, you need the CPU with an SKU that ends in '5' to use the "integrated graphics."

Does Linux/xBSD OS's run without any graphics card presented ? I would like to access and configure my server using IPMI or AMT capabilities and never connect physical KVM devices to that.

Yes, Linux/BSD can run headless, but the setup process is far easier if you plug in a screen and a keyboard until you have installed the OS + SSH and ensured the network connection works.

Term "headless server" was the clue. Thanks ! :)

You are welcome.

If you are new to the Linux/BSD server things, try researching what OS you really need and then find a beginner friendly distribution to start off with.

I went the Linux route without exploring any of the BSD option and that got me a bit set on how Linux does things.
