onboard+barracuda combo?

ok, i have the razer barracuda ac-1 to use with the hp-1 headphones (which is an amazing combo), but i am not 100% satisfied with the quality going to my z-5500's, mainly the optical connection going idle and then having a delay and popping sound when it is re-initialized. i was considering running my z-5500's from onboard audio (i strongly dislike doing so for the obvious reasons) using the optical out while keeping the ac-1 for the headphones since it has the proprietary interface.

i play bf2 and supreme commander

i just upgraded from x-fi xtrememusic to the barracuda a couple months ago (i hate creatives lack of support and despicable drivers)

any thoughts?

if you though creative had bad drivers....lol dude there is no good way to put it. both cards have issues. I prefer my x-fi plus real headspeakers. but my setup cost as much as my pc.

Not sure if you are asking something there or not.
It should work fine.
Though that pair of headphones is a piece of crap. Not sound wise, but build quality.

i take care of the speakers and havent had any problems...

i was looking for thoughts on running onboard audio side-by-side with a sound card

would i get a noticeable performance hit by activating onboard?

i beg a differ. I had my Headsets since nov of last year I have dropped them many times on the hard floor in my room. and they still work great.

I said what happened with my pairS. If you have no problems, then good for you. But I wouldn't recommend them to anyone but my enemy.

we can argue all we want about the build quality of the razer headphones, but they are made the way they are and thats the way it is. i own a pair and so does AdmiralFlameberg, and thats the way it is also. are there any other thoughts/comments/sugguestions/warnings about running onboard audio and a pci sound card at the same time? thanks

And as I said I owned (and still have one) 2 pairs. I am not imagining things.
Anyway, to your question, I never had or have any problem with running both onboard and pci sound card. For many programs you can choose what soundcard to use from within the program. Just make sure you have properly installed, enabled and installed the software for each of them.

I have heard of people that use three soundcards, but I have no experience with that.
You shouldn't have any problem unless there is a hardware failure.

I am talking about using them under Windows XP.

you dont think there would be a performance loss do you?

No performance loss. You can run multiple sound cards without issue.

I use my X-Fi for gaming and everything else connected to my main PC speakers.

I have my headset connected to just my onboard audio, and run things like just vent on it.

No performance loss, at least not for a PC build over the last several years.
You will have some processes that "waste" a few MBs of memory, but no one with 512MB or more RAM should have any problem even noticing it.
