Are there any potential problems associated with switching the PSU off when the PC is off as well? This will probably drain the CMOS battery more (since no stand by power will be supplied to the motherboard), but besides this minor issue, is there anything else I should know about? I myself have always turned the PSU off (seemed like a bit safer approach in case of power problems), but many (most) people seem to leave it always on. What's your opinion?

The only other thing of note is the PS/computer will draw power with the PC off, but the PS switch on. Depending on the MB the draw can be anywhere between a fraction of a watt up to around 10 watts.

If you want to save as much power as possible, it's a good thing to turn off the PSU since it will cut power to anything drawing from the PSU's standby rail even when the PC itself is off. Doing so won't cause any problems.
