just got my x800XT PE today and its screwed!!.... it looks fine and runs fine (in windows) i try 2 run a 3d application (even the 3d view on ATi Tool) and it messes up, i cant really call it artifacts cos the wole screen just breaks off into random chunks of colors and stuff... its really messed up, i even tryed underclocking the card to XT speeds 500/500 and it is still doing the same thing..

should the fan be on all the time or just when it is under load cos i noticed the fan on my card only comes on under load but still it messes up... plz sum1 help quickly i tryed omega catalys 4.12 and the latest set of catalyst drivers from ati... all do the same thing

damn... (rma = wot?) + is this a little too high wen it is unloadedd

(sorry about the shorthand language)
i dont know what rma is or how to do it im a n00b

EDIT: the 3d preview in the catalyst control centre doesnt have this problem though... but even when i load the menu on counter-strike 1.6 it messes up

LOL, as soon as I saw the thread title I thought to myself "this person has got to play CS" :p

HOLY HELL 74c stock on A ATI CARD AND I THOUGHT MY GT IDLED HIGH

some thing is REALY REALY wrong there

and you get a XTPE to play CS1.6 >.> plz tell my your getting HL2 soon

i got hl2 running on a cybercafe account that somebody erm "leant me" *coughs and looks shifty*

but the thing is i have been holding myself back from playing it until i got my card now its broke

EDIT: After calming down a little i decided to take the card out of its box again... only to notice that it looks susoiciously like somebody has been tampering with the card... the h/s+f was not securely screwed onto the card and when mounted inside my pc was barely touching the core/GPU... so here goes one last shot at it i am now currently taking off the h/s+f, wiping off all the thermal compund and putting some more on it of my own, will put the h/s+f back on and retest... wish me luck lads!! :)

had a look at it... took the stock h/s+f off, cleaned off the thermal compund, added some more, refitted it screwed in as tightly as it will go and still it is loose... maybe the thermal compund just wasnt strong enough... luckily i ordered a Atrctic cooling ATi Silencer 4 that was dispatched yesterday, it will be here any time soon so i can try that out!!

Normally I let poor grammar / punctuation / spelling go, but the original was in such a state as to make it difficult to comprehend. Jayzcomp, I hope that remounting the heatsink fixes your problem; if it doesn't, then you should contact the vendor from whom you purchased the card, and attempt to get a Return Merchandise Authorization.

lol hey... sorry about the poor grammar would you believe i got a grade C GCSE in English?.... anyway its not on the top of my list at the moment, maybe if i was writing a really important letter then yes, but im used to typing on msn and short hand + the fact im 16 years old i shouldnt really give a crap about my spelling and grammar... thanks anyway though!!

If it's like that out of the box, I'd ust RMA it (send it back, essentially) rather than try and fix it. By the time you've had the HSF off, cleaned it and added new thermal compound and re-mounted it you'll probably be out of warranty. Then, if the core is screwed, they are unlikely to replace it.

doubtful otherwise people wouldnt sell like the ATi Silencer 4 without a warning before purchase.... plus have you ever changed your cpu in your computer... obviously well it is a simple as that, if not easier to remove and remount!!

Murchandise? On purpose or murely a typo...? Anyway, no "A" for you, young man! ;)

Whoops. :p I've been up all night typing a final paper, I guess my brain had a little malfunction.

I'd just RMA the thing -- technically you have already voided your warranty, but they probably won't know. If it's screwed, and you void your warranty, then you're screwed.

:p Doesnt matter anymore, got the arctic cooling ATi silencer 4, fitted it nice and tightly, but not too tight, some thermal compound on the gpu and ram chips and bob's your uncle, remeber that 74degree's idle now its 30degree's :D works fine no problems thanks for all your help anyway!!
