OMG *Drool*

I'll post what I put on another forum about it:
Well, that's nice, but there's no content at that resolution, so it's moot. There's also no scalars that can output that resolution, so it's really moot.

The panel is also from Chi Mei, so it probably sucks. :p

Well it's good that Chi Mei and IBM before them with the T221 are pushing the envelope. Obviously we're not going to see video content at that res for a while, but at least in the computing space, I don't see how that resolution (3840x2160 or 3840x2400, aka QWUXGA) will be "moot" for long. I know that as a programmer and a casual 3d modeler, any monitor with more pixel real estate is a welcomed monitor. The ACD 30" and Dell 3007wfp already has traction at 2560x1600... one of the next logical steps is QWUXGA. Also, there's already talks on the next generation video interface that can handle QWUXGA at 60hz. Yes, 56" may be too big for a desktop monitor, but shrink your dot pitch a little... there are 17" laptop monitors at WUXGA, so why not a 34" QWUXGA display?

I'd say that until QWUXGA comes to the consumer, let us dream and drool. :D

probably great for that home theater PC or computer gaming, but with that resolution, standard res. will look HORRIBLE and all HD would downgrade as well

There's no basis in reality for what you're saying. The higher pixel count doesn't make SD or anything else look "HORRIBLE". The electronics in front of it do. SD on a 640x480 20" LCD looks just as bad as on a 1600x1200 20" LCD.

An HD image on a 30" 1920x1080 screen will look the same as a HD image on a 30" 3840x2160. Now, if the 3840x2160 screen were 60", then sure, HD would look worse on it.

I can't wait until the resolution of monitors etc becomes so high that with interpolation, the monitor has SO many pixels to choose from, that things dont' look blocky or grainy or 'off'

"the equivalent of watching full motion video from 8.4 megapixel frames"

Lordy

would need a separate air conditioning unit in the summer for all those backlights.

the nice thing about this monitor is that it can display any 1980x1080 signal without having to scale the image. you could therefore watch full HD movies and play games at 1080p without any scaling artifacts. then, once graphics card technology improves to allow gaming at native res, you upgrade to double the resolution.
