Omega -vs- Catalyst Drivers?

I was just wondering what the difference between using the "Omega" drivers -vs- the "Catalyst" drivers from ATI :confused:

I am using a ATI 9800XT 256MB card - I have no intention of over clocking the card by any means - just using it as is and heard many people prefer the performance of the Omega drivers.

the omegas are a lot more tweaked and tuned for looks as well as fps, i think they do better overall vs the catalyst drivers, ive never had a problem with either
 
i run the omega drivers on my system, and doom3 runs noticably better with them vs. the catalyst drivers.
 
Looks like I will be uninstalling the Catalyst drivers tonight ;)

Any special instructions I need to do before reloading the Omega drivers after removing the Catalyst.
 
I think they work with all ati radeon cards, if the normal catalysts work then the omegas will.

To prepare for the omegas, just use the "Uninstall all ATI software" or whatever that option is in the add/remove programs window, then restart and install the omegas
 
I use Omega drivers, and they work great. There is another hacked ATI driverset out there, I just cant remember it of hand. It was better than ATI, but not as good as Omega.
 
Those "other" drivers are the DNA's, but there is a lot of speculation that a bunch of the Omega stuff is included as "original" DNA driver material. Personally, I used the Omega's for over 2.5 years with my 9700Pro, and again with my 9800Pro. Stable, more of a user-friendly interface, with more control options.

You cannot go wrong with them, besides the fact the forums are hosted by DH.. Ugh...

so can I use these Omega drivers on my soft modded XT PE card?

the reason I ask is because someone told me that those Omega drivers do their own soft modding thing so thats why I wanted to ask first.

oh, and where can I get these drivers?

They can do soft modding, if you ask them to. You have a choice during installation. I am running 4.8 Omegas on a bios modded 9800pro, no problems. You can get them at omegadrivers.net

i have a geforce 5200 right now and i knowtices i got slower fps in games (@ 20fps i would get 18-19 with omega drives) i also got lower aquamark scores
 
I just tried out these Omega things for my soft modded XT PE and my desktop wouldnt appear in Windows.

so I had to boot into safe mode and uninstall them and reinstall the regular CATS.
 
How often are the Omega drivers updated? Do they update like the Cat. drivers or is it safe to just not worry about it?

I think it comes out a little after the regular catalysts come out.
