So last night, I installed the latest rev of the Omega drivers. I used teh ati util to completely remove all of the existing drivers, rebooted and installed the Omegas. Ever since, my machine has been acting REALLY F'd up, locking up and crashing and the like. I've tried reinstalling, removing the omegas and rolling back, winding the OCs back to stock, EVERYTHING. No matter what, I still have a system thats too unstable to enjoy. I'm so pissed a t myself right now Its not even funny. I even tried doing a system restore to a checkpoint a week ago, when it was stable and happy. Even that did not work. The ONLY thing that worked was to uninstall all drivers and the display adapter and reboot and let it load up a generic ATI driver from 12/12/03. Thats the only way I can get it to run reliably. WTF am I doing wrong or missing here??? This is driving me nuts and I would hate to have to rebuild the whole freaking thing.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

TIA!

On the omega sit it details how to eliminate any drive reminants. It requires a boot in to safe mode. Id give that a try then reinstall. I have had zero problems with the Omegas.

I haven't had any problems with the Omegas either.

The thing that worries me about your situation, it still fails after a system restore?
doesn't sound like the Omega drivers are the cause of your problem, sounds like a coincidence...

Well, last night as a last resort, I did one last system restore from last sunday. Amazingly, this worked for whatever reason. I'm still curious as to why installing OMega drivers F'd up my system so badly. The short of it is I'll NEVER do THAT again!

I'm not sure as to why you're having so much difficulty. Everyone I've ever heard has had no problems with the Omegas. Personally, I wouldn't go back to the ATI drivers. Did you clean off any previous drivers before you installed the Omegas?

Sounds like you have a hardware peice going bad in your computer.

I have been using the omega drivers since he came out with them for the old voodoo cards and have had 0 problems with it. It really sounds like you have a hardware problem somewhere.

I've been using them on my 9800PRO flawlessly.

actually using the omegas based off the CAT 3.9s, because they run some older openGL games a bit better.

but I've installed MANY versions on this system before settling on the 3.9s, and never once had a problem.

I've also installed the Omega's on my GF's box without any problems either.

You guys may or may not be right about a hardware problem. Too soon to tell. What I do knw is that the problems began AFTER I installed the latest Omega drivers. Ever since i did that on Fiday night, I've had mob VPU errors\recoveries.

So anyways, as a follow-up, I realized/admitted that my registry was more than likely hosed, given the problems i was having. I reinstalled XP and have built the machine back to an aceptable level, loaded my games and have been playing for two days now.

In 3dm2k1 it scored in the 16500 range, and in 3dM2k3 I score in the 5600 range. needs minor tweaking but other then that, Im back up and running.

I guess a year of updating drivers and installing games finally did a number on my registry after installing the Omegas that last time. Now those suckers work like a charm!

OMG you too? I thought I was the ONLY one who had noticed that. I get at least 10fps more in Quake 3 with the 3.9 cat Omegas than I do with ANY other driver set. Thank God someone else does too, I thought I was just crazy.

I meant to ask too if they are better than dna drivers I like the quality difference in them but I will try them when I go home. I am addicted to nfs underground online I think I am going to divorce my wife over it j/k but I really like the game even my 2 year old daughter wants to play that game and Nemo of course

I didn't know that. I just uninstalled the latest Omega 4.2 drivers and installed 3.9's earlier and I scored like almost 1000 points higher in AquaMark3 and also Counter-Strike seem to run a lil faster and smoother for me.
