I have an older Pentium 2 system that I recently restored but I ran into problems right off the bat. I installed Windows 98 FE and all of the latest drivers available for it but I had a wierd issue of just having the computer completely freeze up on, the mouse would just stop and the system would come to a halt and I would have to reset. I ran Prime95 on the system and I came up with no errors for 5 hours, the freeze would usually happen after 15 min so I know that the RAM/Mobo/CPU are fine.
I thought it was just that 98 FE was just crap once Windows Media Player didn't work at all so I got 98 SE. I installed everything, even with newer drivers for my sound card(they don't make new ones for FE) and then the freeze happened again.
I then decided to check my IRQs, as I remember Sound Blasters really need their own IRQ or else you could get a ton of issues. After I checked the IRQ on the sound card I checked the IRQ on the USB host controller, then bam the freeze happens. I then restarted and checked the IRQ again on the USB and it didn't freeze that time but it had the same IRQ.
I moved my soundcard into another slot and I havn't froze yet(knock on wood) but I had to move my wireless network card into the slot that is shared with the sound card. I tried changing the IRQ of the PCI slot but the USB IRQ changes with it. My other 2 PCI slots are taken up by Voodoo 2s.
Is there a way I can fix this issue?
