Hope this is the right forum - seems like it anyhow. I'm a longtime lurker, first time poster. Usually any info I need I get from poking around and haven't really needed to ask anything yet.

Anyhow, on to my question. :)

I have an older Sony Vaio PCV-RX370DX I'm sticking some minor upgrades on. It's a P4 1.3, and the mobo is an Asus WMT-LX.

Yeah, it's gimp, yeah it's old, but it works and for a second comp, it does the job nicely (serving MP3s, mostly).

I picked up a P4 1.9Ghz for cheap. Processor definitely works (tested, etc). Bear in mind that this is a socket 423 chip.

My Bios rev is 1002.

With the new CPU in, the sucker refuses to boot. It powers up, but no beep, no bios, no post. According to Sony and from googling around, the board supports up to 2Ghz.

I get no video at all using standard Bios, but with the bios reset jumper set, I at least get signal (though no real output - just the monitor light greens out).

My first thought is that, again from searching and reading etc, that I need Bios 1003 or greater to run higher than 1.3. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it anywhere, as Sony and Asus no longer support the mobo.

I tried hunting down some documentation on the board, but only ended up with dead ends and spam sites.

My question is, if anyone knows a decent bios site that supports older OEM boards, or if there's perhaps another avenue I can try that I haven't thought of. I have a new motherboard on the way for it that'll be here in a week so it's not really a pressing issue - but for the time being I'd really like to figure out why it's not working. According to ClubVaio, even the older bios is supposed to autodetect the new clock speed.

Sorry for my first post being about old stuff, but again - I've found the answers to all of my more modern questions/upgrades here, and figured you guys might be able to lend some ideas in this case.

The only immediate difference that I can tell is that my motherboard has 4 RDRAM slots, the newer one only has two.

Heh, think it will be an issue? :D

The new motherboard on the way is an Abit TH7 RAID.

I tell ya, finding upgrades for old stuff is a monster pain, but this thing looks decent enough. It can be overclocked (rar, phear the overclocked 1.9!) and supports the RDRAM already in the thing.

Only concern that I have is that it supports only AGP 4x 1.5v devices. The vid card in this guy (Again it's just a backup box) is a cheapo Radeon 9600 256mb. Not a pro or anything, but I'm still a bit concerned that it won't work on the new board.

Thoughts?

Radeon 9600s are AGP4x, no doubt at all.
