I'm hoping someone could help me with a wallet.dat file I have had for almost four years. I remember mining litecoin, dodgecoin, and ultracoin but quit mining when it dropped in value. I found my old thumb drive and discovered the wallet.dat file on it contained 120kb of info. I believe it contains ultracoin but could contain any of the above coins and possibly some partial Bitcoin. I downloaded Bitcoin core but can't seem to get it to read the file right. The bitcoin core wallet has 1.43gb and when I replace it with my wallet Bitcoin core fails to load. Is there any other way to find out what's on my wallet? Thanks and any help is appreciated.
 
As far as I know, the wallet files are specific to the wallet client they were created by. So a litecoin wallet file won't work in a bitcoin wallet client.

If you used a multicoin client to create the file, you'll need to use it again to open it.
 
Thank you for the reply, I have downloaded ultracoin and Bitcoin wallets but when I replaced the wallet.dat file they both failed and crashed. I'm trying feathercoin now.
 
I just opened up a few wallet.dat files and all appear to have my address in plaintext in them. Either run something like strings against the file, or open in a text editor. All of mine had the string:

right before my wallet address. Can paste this into a bunch of blockchain explorer sites to see which one looks right. They also contained a description of some of my transactions - which could give a clue like: "litecoin mining".
