i have a area 51 2009-2910 I think, cant find paper work yet

im running 1080p at 60 hrz

im not into overclocking the only on line game I play is w@w and looking at bf 5, other games are farcry 3, skyrim, and fallout3,most of my other games are about the same speed.

yes this system is old but so am I at 62 and in bad health. I will be bumping the ram to tri channel 12 gig. what I need is a gpu- have been looking at a gtx1660ti and a new 1070 for about 50 bucks more than the 1660ti, so my question is can my system run either one of these cards with this mobo and processor?

I did do a search here under i7 960 got some info but dated to 2008. after I get this unit up im going to start looking at new system- non dell by end of year

What kind of display are you using? Resolution is the most important determinant with respect to what kind of graphics card you actually need. There are plenty of options that can handle 1080P resolution.

Assuming it's a 1080P display, I'd go with the 1660 Ti between the options you mentioned, especially if you're planning on a whole system upgrade later in the year.
 
FYI - I have had 2 Rev 1 Area 51 machines, though mine were both i7-920's. The problem you may run in to is that the power supply is weenie (in my case 500-550W). With an RX580 in one system and a 1070 in the other, I would get random black screens anytime anything even tickled the graphics card a little bit. Both machines ended up with a Seasonic 850 power supply (standard power supplies work fine on these machines) and all is good. You will have to do a bit of work to get all the cable management undone, though, but it's not too bad.

I would have expected these to haver stronger power supplies considering one of them had SLI'd GeForce 660's...

Edit: I know you said you have a 1000W power supply, but I'd double check that. Also, I don;t know if you have one or not, but an SSD for the OS is an amazing and inexpensive upgrade that breathes a lot of life back in to these systems.

I went to msi web page and looked at the msi 1660ti armor, it took me to amazon msi page where they sell the cards and I posted the same question as I did here and I got this answer well 2 of them-

"Can't imagine that you would. I'm running Ryzen 5 2600 overclocked to 4 gig and all is smooth. If anything, you might be CPU bottlenecked, but this is a great value card that will still stand tall if you later upgrade your CPU."

"I've read for that mobo that it may have issues running newer parts that require UEFI bios support. If you have an updated uefi bios then maybe, if not you might be out of luck. Someone in the Nvidia forums confirmed a 2060 did not work on their mobo that did not have a uefi bios, I would expect the 1660 to be the same."

a lot said to just build a new system, not what I wanted to hear but prob right.

the post by erik concerned me about the 1660 ti and have no idea what he/s talking about, I had found 1 nvidia 1070 new at 354.00 and the msi 1660ti for 294.00 I went to pull the trigger on the 1070 this morning and it was gone - figures. but I found anther that was bought new 6 months ago so I still have a choice so far. as you prob can tell I am not a computer whiz..

as far as psu im not sure who the maker is ill have to call dell and find out, if their records go back that far. I do know that it is running to spec for a 1k psu, I had to have a guy come out and get rid of a bug I couldn't in the system, when I let my college kid use it to get a paper turned in for class. he tested card psu and a few other things, he said the card was having problems and the psu was still at specs for its age, oy lasted 3 weeks. I did try to get the psu unplugged to pull it out but couldn't get the dang connecter to release.
