Old Socket 370 question--locked multi?

I've got this "spare parts" rig as I call it, that I'm tinkering with. I started overclocking today (MB is a DFI CS65-EC) and while I can change the multiplier in the bios, it has no effect in windows.

If I change FSB in bios, WCPUID shows a higher clock speed. I can adjust voltage as well... but regardless of where I set the multiplier, on boot up (during bios memory check) it still says "Intel Pentium III 733MHz (133x5.5)" and the different multiplier never has any effect in windows.

So? Any thoughts? I searched for a good while for past threads, but found nothing relating to this, only found threads for more modern processors, or people asking how fast they can get their 370's to go.

I dunno how much higher the memory is gonna let me take it, would like to change that 5.5 multiplier soon :p

Thanks :)

I had a very similar experience using my P6SET-ML Dual socket 370/slot 1 Mobo. Although you can change the core speed in bios, it doesn't seem to affect actual core speed. What you're changing is the attempted core speed. The BIOS still redetects your processor's default core speed when the computer is booted up. To override this and set your own FSB and multi, keep clicking through your core speed options until it says "Manual." From there, you can change FSB and multiplier separately and these changes will be forced upon the processor and RAM.
