i have a old flight sim yoke, it still works, and i want to use it, however i dont have the correct port for it.
it does however fit on my room mates docking station.
the # of pins is 15
it is ibm compatable, i just need a card or something for it....
shpould i even bother with this, or just buy a new 100$ yoke?
id like to be economical here:D
but if its a lost cause....
i suppose

most soundcards have that on them. it is joystick/midi port.
maybe you can get a cheapo soundcard and disable everything except that port.

another name = serial port, game port, joystick port.. i hadnt heard it called midi port before. i had thought a midi port was one of those round ports for microphones and guitars to plug into.

damn legacy ports... why dont people just use USB.

anyway, there is a card out there that'll run you about 40 bucks that'll take a pci slot and give you 2 serial ports. i'm not sure it's a good tradeoff, but if it saves you money and you dont need that pci slot, then i guess it's okay.

you should be able to get a sound card for less than $0 somplace and as DeFex said just dissable the sound, and use the port

(one port for $10 is better than 2 for $40 imo)

The game port is not the same as the serial port. They shouldn't be confused because the two are not directly compatible. The game port can be used for MIDI instrument communication, but its popularity as both a game and a MIDI interface has dwindled over the years.

If you really want to use the joystick, go buy a game port to USB adapter. The going rate on eBay is $15 plus shipping--reasonable enough. Otherwise, you could buy a soundcard or riser card that has the game port. If you hunt carefully you should be able to keep the total cost under $20 at least.

meeeh.....
i can get a new usb joystick for 100$
might as well spend the extra 60$ and get new and realistic goods
