My wife's P4 socket 478 has an extremely noisy CPU fan (all stock).
Not looking to OC just want to quiet this thing down.

Any simple suggestions besides pulling the fan power plug...LOL:D

thanks

I use a scythe ninja on mine. depending on your speed you may not need a fan

Do a google search for Zalman 9500 copper -- it's what I use to cool my P4. And it's very quite. Hell, the 120mm fan are louder than the Zalman!

Used the Zalman 7000 AlCu on mine. Was pretty quiet if you turned the fan down. The Tuniq Tower 120 does mount on there too if your case has room. Was bored and put it on there years back when I first got the cooler, think it was like 20C cooler than the Zalman lol.

Looks like Petra is phasing out of business?

The Ninja 2 looks nice.

I found this Nexus P4 Quiet CPU Fan also.
Price looks right.

Why do you keep going to small high RPM HSF's? That Nexus is NOT the right choice when the FAR better Ninja can be had for the same price. Also, why do you think Petra is going out of biz? I have heard no such thing.

It would be the same price however Petra is "out of stock".
I understand what you are saying about smaller fans and higher RPMs = more noise but the Nexus PHT-3600 looked like it would be quiet enough for my needs at 19 dBa and even less with the NRC-1000 Noise Reduction Cable.

I'll look around for a deal on the Ninja 2.

I misunderstood this link from their site.
My bad.

Don't look at noise ratings, they are all full of crap, mfg's fluff the numbers, and in that price range you should be getting a 120mm cooler. Not only will it be quieter, but the sound tone that you do hear will be much more pleasant on the ears. You can find the Ninja in stock at allot of places but most will run around 35-38 bucks.
