Searching for info about the original pentium CPU's to upgrade one of my old computers I came across this website . I think it's pretty amazing that people have these huge collections of CPU's from all sorts of machines. Check out his links to other people's sites that have even more extensive collections of cpu's. Makes me wonder if any of you out there happen to have any small collections of rare or old cpu's? List them if you got them! Myself the only old stuff I got are an AMD 286 12MHz cpu along with a math co-procceser made by Cyrix  I'll post a pic in a little bit!

I still have a plastic cased 8088. I think I have a ceramic one in my original IBM PC in my basement.

Huh? Why does it say AMD and then at the bottom Intel (c) 1982?

I'm confused. All these years AMD has been competing with itself? :p

Back on topic, we were digging through a bunch of old cases at work, and we found an Intel OverDrive in a SLOCKET! hah!

Huh? Why does it say AMD and then at the bottom Intel (c) 1982?

From what I recall AMD was licensed by Intel to make the cpu's

Yea for awhile there AMD was forced to license the ability to make cpus that are compatable with intel motherboards...Oh how things have changed.

Oldest cpu i have is a 486 i think.

It's cuz at one time AMD was just making a clone of Intel processors. It wasn't until around the mid 90's that AMD really started going it's own way.

true. My Smoothwall box has a 233mhtz AMD K6 that runs on an intel chipset that supports Cyrix, Intel, and AMD cpu's. Socket 7.

Pentium 75
AMD K6 233
AMD K6 300

I have quite a few old chips, but my favs are my 2 AMD 8088 chips. I have a lot of the other chips since then too, AMD 286-16/s, 386DX/DXL-40, All sorts of speeds of 486's, couple of the 5x86's, and of course my K5, K6, K6-2,K6-2+, and K6-III chips.

at the locel mall(aka the dump) i found alot of ansint procs, mobos, ram, and vid cards(im talking 10-15+ years old) but my mom just threw them out (no idea why) :( , i had alot of old amds, and a few pentiums

486-DX I believe. I have some really really old mac stuff (LC II baby) but I'm not too sure of the proc on that. 4 mhz IIRC.

The oldest CPU I owned was 386 on some mobo....Man, I love how the heatsink was just clipped onto the cpu itself and had no thermal paste between it and the heatsink....

i only have a collection of old, but ridiculously common cpus:(

i remember those days......

i remember when upgrading up to 64k ram was a HUGE performance increase for old computers like that.

I have an old DX-4 100mhz (yes, 100mhz) 486 in an old AMS laptop. The processor is still good AFAIK, limping along with a bent but fixed pin... the laptop still worked up until a few months ago when it suddenly would not boot past the BIOS screen. seems as though hte HD needs formatted and windows reinstalled... allthough I do not have a floppy drive in it and it does not boot from the CD.

The wierd thing is the DX-4 was very very rare to find in the 100mhz model. I looked on ebay a while ago and only found 2.

The laptop had 16MB of ram and a 510MB hard drive. I had Windows 98 on it. :)

nice collection mcryptic, would you happen to have a P133? That's what I am looking for to upgrade one of my computers! :D

I think the LCII has a 20Mhz 68LC030 (one w/o a FPU) processor.

AMD made Intel chips until the 486 age, and did for a little while until Intel found out that they were selling theirs cheaper than the Intel ones and killing their sales :p

The plastic cased 8088 is plastic because it is....

...AMD made :p

Eat your heart out...

8088 - 4.77Mhz, 256kb ram, CGA video (a high end option at the time), CGA monitor which cost a mint, dual 360k floppies, cassette port.

It starts up but I get no video on it. I tried the monitor on my tester and it is in great shape. I may have to open it up and press in all the ram being that it hasn't been used in, what, 15 years or so.

i HAD a old 286 that was in a computer with a BAD BAD power supply being used as my moms footstool for a few years

one day i decided to plug that in and see the specs on it
the case was opened
plugged in the power
boom!!! a capacitor exploded and a spark flew outta the motherboard landed on my carpet and started to burn
it took me a few seconds to realize what had happened
i blew out the flame and now theres a small black hold on my carpet

being scared of this computer... i bagged the parts, stuffed it into the case, put on the screws TIGHTLY, and chucked out the whole computer

stupid me, i shoulda salvaged the fans, cpu, harddrives, floppies, cddrives, etc but i was scared like crazy as this was the first time a computer caught fire on me
i had a few other computer fires too, but if u wanna hear about it, let me know and i ll waste server space by posting stories here

i have other cpus though, 486s and pentiums

i have an XT computer somewhere well thats what my parents call it uses yellow screen no colour :p

I'm almost positive I have a P133 sitting @ home. If you want it LMK.

Oldest CPU is probably a circa '93 Cyrix Cx486 DX2-66. Only reason I'm hanging onto that one is it's the year I graduated H.S.

I'll have to search through my really old stuff and try to find an Intel 4004 processor :D

I have a p166 in a PC. Still chugging along on win 95. May use it for something or sell it. Not sure yet.

DAMN IT.... i just went out into the garage to look for my old apple lisa.... my parents tossed it out.... they have know idea how much that thing is worth... seening as how it still worked...

i know it had 2 motorola processors in it... i think they where 8mhz... but im not shure... they may have been 12 (this was a custom thing... this one was owned by a big corp. befor i got my hands on it)

i know it had 2 megs of ram installed... (2 system boards with 16 sticks per board... small ram farm)

it had a 10 meg HD and dual 5.25 floppys one internal one external (the hard drive was external... but i moved it into the box and put the extra floppy in the hd holder... as i didnt always need the extra floppy)

amazeing ly enought... i never had a problem with moveing the harddrive while it was on... (remeber the stories about moveing hd's and haveing to format them...)

any way... someone is gonna get yelled at tonight...

thore

Got a p200 and a p150@180 both still in everday use as family computers here, ie not firewalls or file servers. Got some bizarre cyrix 120mhz chip sitting on my shelf. It's all good.

I've still got the FIRST EVER Pentium: the Pentium 75. I remember it was a top of the line system: 75 Mhz, 32MB(!!!!) RAM, 2MB Video card, 500MB Hard Drive space and a sound card....
It had Windows 95!!! I nearly fainted.
The chip didn't even have a heatsink or a fan!! Those were the days..... :D
And it still works, though I don't use it ever

The oldest cpu I've got is a 8086 (that still works). I'll take some pics and post them. I also have a Wyse 286 6mhz (16mhz when turbo is on !!! woo woo!). A 386, 2 486, and Pentium 133. I love my old computers :) 16mg of ram owns... DOS, BBS's, ANSI art, ahh the memories.

Slight problem. The first Pentiums were 60 and 66 Mhz :p

As for the Apple Lisa, that thing would have been worth a complete mint. They are extremely rare and collectable. Hell the Owner's guide and mouse is going for $70 on eBay just for that. Just think what you'd collect for a Lisa.

My former college has a Apple III sitting in a math lab, I have to go see if I can grab it and sell it on eBay.

Anybody remember the nexgen 586 chips? or the IDT centaur winchips. Those were probably the two strangest setups ive ever owned ;o i had a nexgen nx586-p90 and it actually worked fairly well with windows and os/2 ;o , then i was the first person i knew that had a winchip 180 and a 225. the 180 was fast in windows, but dog slow in games :). I guess ive always been a proponent of strange cpu's, from amd 286's all the way up to cyrix 686's and athy 64's. Ive been thinking of picking up one of those VIA-C3 motherboards with the processor built in that can run passively to set up something in my car ;o

.It feels strange to only be 24 and have owned so many different cpu's. Just goes to show how fast technology is changing. (remember when 640k of ram was considered acceptable :) )

I am still using the old/classic cpus.
check out my sig.

EDIT:

here is a shot of some procs I have lying around,
procs.jpg

front, left to right: P200MMX, P166, P200, Celeron 266, AMD Athlon 500
Back, left to right: PIII 500, PII 350, PII300.

Cool, my thread made you make your first post! :D
I am 24 too I remeber my first computer, a Comodore Vic20 with a tape drive! That thing was so much fun to play with. I still got it too in the garage in a box. Last I checked it still worked

Yeah, ive been browsing around in the forsale/trade forum for a while, but this is the first one I felt like replying to ;)

My favourite in my old cpu collection is a Pentium Pro 200.
It and a Matrox Millennium were the bomb for running Quake1 circa fall of 1996 if I remember right.
Unfortunately I was stuck with an overclocked Pentium 75 at the time

hmm old cpu's eh?

lets see what Ive got.

Cyrix CX486 DX2 66mhz
Intel 486 SX 33mhz
Intel Pentium 150mhz
Intel Pentium 133mhz (mmx?)
AMD K6-2 300mhz

and a Intel Pentium PRO 150mhz (can overclock to a 166mhz with 66mhz fsb) :p man this thing is an old warhorse.

all of them still work. in fact im building a system around the PRO. :D

The oldest cpu I have is Cyrix 133. I feel like I'm one of those people who upgrade too often but from looking at these posts I feel much better. hehe

I have some old, but not rare ones.

Cyrix MediaGX 180mhz
Intel Pentium 133mhz
Intel Pentium MMX 233mhz
Intel Pentium Pro 200mhz (256kb L2)
Intel Pentium II 266mhz
