This is my "old" media server. Dragged it out of storage and it powered up, luckily it verified ok...once I figured out I couldn't initiate a check from the HTML login via the onboard port of the Areca card, hat do to it from the BIOS login.
Anyway, I think I built this around 7 or 8 years ago now, can't believe that I used a Nvidia 680i motherboard, about as far from server grade as you can get. Its currently running 15 1TB drives in a RAID6 configuration and I want to migrate this to something smaller using larger 3/4TB hard disks which consumes less power.
Its time to build a new server to move into the current era of technology. I liked the idea of ZFS but the lack of ability to extend the array one drive at a time as the library grows it a negative. What other options are there which can provide the benefits of ZFS but still permit on the fly RAID extensions?
thanks in adv
