Hey guys, I'm new to the forums, and penguin referred me to here. You guys can get him later on. =P

Anyways I recently just bought a new PC...$30 I spent on the system itself. =P I bought it to play around with, but the case isn't too cooperative, and the parts aren't either. I have a motherboard with a Socket A I believe with an Athlon XP 1900+, but I dunno if the board can get into there. I tried overclocking with the BIOS, but it's either too old to be overclocked form that way, or it's locked since it's OEM. (HP) I was gettin into overclocking the system by the motherboard's jumpers, but I have no expierence, and since I bought it used, I do not have the manufacturer's instruction manual sadly...I tried lookin it up on google but I believe the board is way too old.

Intel P200 r030
Pentium I MMX
OS: Windows 98 SE

So, with the overclocking and upgrading options out, it really doesn't give me much more options, other than disassembling and reassembling. Anyone have any ideas on what to do? (I'm not that expierienced by the way.)

And here are some pictures of the system.

What's worse is that I have been studying on mainly tower PCs...not desktops.....o_O

Well thanks for your time guys

Even if you managed to get the new board in the PSU is not only the wrong type (AT), it would be far underpowered! Probably in the neighborhood of 130 watt I'm guessing.

Im really not proficient with linux but would be willing to bet there is a build that would make a fine firewall on a box with those specs :)

Install Dos 6.2 and enjoy all your old Lucasgames classics!

Dosbox! Dosbox! Dosbox!

And..that all I can do, put DosBox on...lol...I don't have internet connection so I need to put it on a floppy disk from this computer and put it on the junk one. =P Any other suggestions? =D

the 1900+, is that just a motherboard and cpu? or does it have memory too? you probably could, if you really wanted to.. find a case at a thrift store or something.. then get a cheapie power supply for it... or even just find a cheap case/psu for $30 somewhere and stick the socket A in it.. that computer is too proprietary.. you can't put a different motherboard it in.. it just won't happen..

so yeah.. that's about where you are at...

that computer would run win98 decently, you could use it to play mp3s over a network.. or play old dos games on it.. or make a firewall or something, but that's about it...

I have the board as well with the Athlon XP 1900+ chip, but sadly I do not know the board model...I wouldn't know unless I hooked it up to a PC. I still need to buy memory for it if I was to build a complete system; the 16MB RAM on the 98 isn't too bad. It runs Windows Media Player 9 fine, (And it has an XP logo...=P) with 1MB VRAM. So yeah..on to DOS games for me..... :( :D
