I just put together a computer for a family member out of some old pieces that I had laying around and I am just having a slight problem. When I turn on the computer the CPU fan turns on with it but then as soon as it gets up to full speed it then slows down and turns off. I never really watched it that much but I'm pretty sure that the fan is supposed to be spinning all the time. Can you think of anything that could be causing this problem? I never unplugged the fan when I originally took the computer apart so I know for a fact that it use to work as it is now. If you need anymore information to help solve the problem please ask. Thanks.

You sure that smart fan or other fan speed setting is configured under the bios? Normally it speeding up and spinning down or off may indicate that this is enabled. The real test would be to monitor temperatures and run something CPU intensive to see if the fan picks back up.
