Do they even make DDR PC3600 memory anymore? It's been years since I built my computer and I had forgotten what was inside until I checked it on crucial. I'm looking to throw a 1GB stick in my last slot, and I'm worried that I'll have to pick up a couple of new sticks so the models match. Seem to remember having the same type of memory (DDR) in all slots as important. I'm looking for 3600 because my mind tells me it'd be cheaper than 4000 - but I don't want a lower make because I'd have to lower the memory speed.

Basically, I want to upgrade a bit to hold myself over until Christmas '09, where I'm going to build the computer that should carry me through graduate school in style.

If they don't, could someone make a good bang-for-the-buck memory suggestion? System stats below, and "the board can hold DDR PC3200,DDR PC2700,DDR PC4000 with a maximum of 1GB per slot." according to crucial. (Which is interesting, seeing as how it's telling me I have 3600 in there.)

DDR1 memory -- the kind that your motherboard uses -- is on its way out of production. The memory modules which exactly match your memory are no longer being produced; their IC chips are no longer in production. Eventually, the only DDR1 memory modules that you'll be able to find are the "Value" series memory from the major brands, with relatively high (loose) latency timings and conservative, JEDEC-reference rated clock speeds. No current system uses this type of memory; most current systems use DDR2 memory, and a few use DDR3. And you cannot use DDR2 or DDR3 system memory on your motherboard because the modules simply won't fit. And the current going prices for DDR1 memory, even the Value series memory, is higher per GB than most DDR2 memory.

You might as well start saving money towards an entire new system at this point.
