Old machine bogged down?

I have an old p3 900mhz w/ 512 ram running on win98.... Up until today, everything on it ran quite snappy, until i turned it on and it went automatically to safe mode. i went to msconfig and sure enough, the settings were such that it would go to safe mode. So, i changed them back to normal settings, and restarted the computer. When i got back into windows, after about 5 minutes, the computer became incredibly bogged down. System recources said that there were 86% (give or take) free, there was nothing under processes that shouldn't be there, etc. Everything looks fine, but it seems clogged or something.

Any ideas? i'm totally out.
 
ya win 98 has problems, my moms dell demension 4100 p3 had win 98 on it, after a while it would just reboot, i watched the memory drop ( at idle)from 400mb free to 1 mb free then it would crash!, I worked on it for days, looking for spyware,adware,trojans,viruses, i tryed tweeking the os, tryed everything and nothing worked, so I took win 98 off and put on win2000 pro, wow!!! what a change. its stable, and underload I have around 215-250mb free memory still, you should try and get a win2000 disc from a friend!~

also microsoft is going to start charging extra for win98 & win95 tech support.

load win2000,!!!!!! :D :D
 
i have an old pIII 900mhz proc running with 384mb ram on win 98 and i works fine. spyware, maybe?
 
When I had my win98 problem, i used every tool known to mankind to fix it, nothing worked.

but my computer isnt yours so it might be what Thermite Paste said try running ad-ware , and spy-bot search and destroy, it just might work, if you do find that crap clean it and run spywareblaster to keep it from comming back.

if thats not the problem, put on xp or find a friend with a win2000 disc
