Old hub only connects 2 computers

I have an old linksys nh-105 hub and we have 3 computers connected to it, and only 2 computers seem to be able to get internet from it.

The hub is a 5 port hub so I figure that it SHOULD be able to handle at least 3 if not 5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Maybe it has some bad ports? Or maybe you have a bad cable? Does the PC say it is connected to a network?

Try the computer that won't connect with the cable and port that does work.

Also check to see if you're using the proper cables. Computer to hub connections should be straight. Hub to switch/hub/router should be crossover (or using an 'uplink' port on one of the devices with a straight cable).

no there are not any bad ports, every connection works but....

I'll explain the entire situation, we have the modem and hub in the same room, 1 computer is connected to the hub in that same room, there is my computer connected in my room from the hub and the spare room that has a connection in it but no computer. The spare room is the room that is giving me problems. When we do connect a computer to that connection we are unable to get internet on it until we disconnect one of the other connections.

Ahh I see. So you're using the hub to create more connections to your cable modem.

I'd bet a dollar you're only allowed two IP's, so thats why only two pc's work.

You'll need a router. Which you really should have anyway for a broadband connection.
