Old display: Unsafe?

I have a 14" dell monitor from long long ago that I use to check on my folding boxen. It's a total piece of junk, I'd have no objection to getting rid of it, but for now it's convenient.

The problem is, today I turned it on and it was whining (like TV's do). When I put my have up to it, it had a huge static field. It actually shocked me.

Does this sound like monitor-->trash time or is there something simple to fix this? Ground it, etc?

you know you want that new 19" lcd, dont try to find excuses . haha, i'd say thatr 14 incher prolly served u long enough, time to get a new one.

I think you’re quite safe, that noise is sometimes the prelude of impending death (for your monitor) but your safe for now.

Not at all sure about your need to stick your head into your monitor, that particular fetish might require professional attention
