Old Creative X-FI Elite Pro

I still have one of these sitting in the junk room. It worked when put away.

This thing was VERY expensive when new (Like $400) and was Creatives high-end audiophile solution. It has a PCI card and an big ass external box with connectors for days.

Specs below.

My question is, based on the specs, is this something I should use instead of the SB Z card I now have? Believe it or not there are Windows 10 drivers. They really have done well in supporting this kit.

I would certainly give it a try. Personally I prefer the X-Fi cards over the Sound-Blaster Z line. This card that you have is about the best X-Fi you can get aside from the Titanium HD.

The specs look good to me. Since there's drivers and if you've got the slot, definitely try it.

The Elite Pros are great, one of Creative's all time great cards. Unless you have a specific reason, I'd keep using it.

I think I'll give it a try.

I think the Z cards are down on dynamic range, and while the USB DAC built into my Line-6 AmpliFi TT box improves that a lot, it's output section is very noisy from a white noise standpoint.

One of these days I'll just get a box of Schiit

The only thing the Z series is better at is directional sound. My 2.1 puts sounds damn near 360 degress around me and even does vertical levels well for gaming. Otherwise, they do not sound as good. Especially for music. It is really disappointing for music.

I would look into the DanielK drivers. They seem to work great with Windows 10. I rotate between my XFi Titanium and my ZXR for diferent games.
