I have an old PII computer with an ASUS P2B motherboard. I've since upgraded it to a Celery 1.4Ghz through the use of the Powerleap processor upgrade.
My NIC of choice for the last several years is a 3COM 3C905TX-M 10/100 Fast Ethernet NIC with a WOL cable attached to the motherboard so I can boot it remotely. I am remembering from years ago that the WOL cable was required. I hope I'm wrong, because.....
I want to get a gigabit ethernet controller now, probably an Intel. None of the new gigabit adapters have a place for the cable. I assume WOL is done through the PCI bus, like most newer PC's.
So would one of those work in my P2B motherboard? Or if not, is there a gigabit PCI adapter that supports such a cable, since that may (is?) required for my motherboard?
Thanks,
Robert
