Okay, what now?

First warning, I like to plan ahead.

Second warning, I like to plan far in advance.

Third warning, I just wrote a paper, be weary of large words and excellent grammer

Anyways, my b-day is coming up, national pot smoking day to be exact, anywho, I have a few choices to make, computer wise...

1st - Keep Dell in sig, update vid card to an AIW, and increase memory to 1 gig, as well as second hdd.

2nd - Keep CPU and GFX card, buy a Springdale/Canterwood board, as well as 1 gig of PC2700, as well as a second hdd.

3rd - Buy 2.4c/2.6c, buy a Springdale/Canterwood board, 512MB of PC3500+, keep current hdd, and buy another. keep GFX card

4th - LGA775, brand spanking new, keep current rig operational. watercooled

5th - Start building a Dual Xeon, Nocoma cores, I'm talking 800mhz FSB 1MB L2 cache, with 64bit tech.

6th - Keep Dell, increase memory, and buy second hdd, buy a cheap AthlonXP rig for no reason(?)

They are all feasible, some cost more than others obviously. I'm very keen on option 1, 2, and 3. But, I want to see how LGA775 will turn out, and whether it has 64bit capabilities. And option 5 is just damn expensive, but sweet ;). Now, you're probably saying, why ask now, LGA is a while off, well, I have a chance of buying long before my b-day, if I dont go with LGA.

I do alot of Maya 3d work, but my current rig handles it quite well, surprisingly well. I also do vid. editing. Gaming, not so much, but I do go around playing a round or two of BF1942, CS, and CoD.

Sigh, I'm sorry, I'm a kind of guy that wont sleep well without knowing what my plans are for the upcoming future...it's a bad habit, i know, and whats worse is its only for computers  ;)

Do you need anything? Doesn't sound like it.

Secondly, although the AIW cards are sexy, I don't like the idea. They cost more and when you want to replace the card in the future you have to buy another AIW card. I prefer a standalone TV tuner if I'm going to have one at all.

I think if you're happy with what you've got do some minor upgrades (a gig of Ram, better video and TV tuner if you need/want it) and find a good deal on a HDD. You can find big drives for dirt cheap if you shop around and wait for rebates. Keep it as low cost as possible though since the new tech is coming and if you want a new and fast machine then, there's no point in spending a lot now.

DUAL XEONS!!! ... Okay, that's probably the least cost effective thing that you would probably also have the least use for, but I mean, you'll have dual xeons... :p

If you upgrade your motherboard in a dell, don't you also have to get a new PSU (because dells have a different design that can fry normal motherboards??)? Or am I wrong?

Dells are ATX cases, so any ATX mobo would fit. But Dell cases have crappy cooling and cooling options anyways. Only one 92 mm fan in my old Dimension 8100 and I don't see any other places to put fans.

Also, if you're gonna get a different mobo, can't use the Dell PSU, just to let you know. They use a rewired ATX connector.

oh i know, i'd get a new PSU and case, I knew that already, just forgot to mention it...
