I just replaced my T-bred 2400xp which ran @ 2.2 ghz...

for a Barton that runs at 2.07 ghz...

now i WOULD go search for the answer...

but i love you guys too much to do that..

so can u tell me why i should stick with my barton?

they have 512kb of cache. that's the only thing I know different.

512k of cache, 333 mhz bus. if youre not going to overclock, why the hell did you do that?

exactly.. i BOUGHT it to overclock..

lol

i plyaed around with the barton some more today...
it can go all the way up to 2500mhz without any problems *heatwise* but the stupid wireless mouse would crap out... when i stick a non-wireless mouse in, it would work.. i kinda got ticked at the idea of having a 90$ mouse laying around to collect dust so now i m back to my T-bred... i have no idea why this is happening

i can only come up to a conclusion that the motherboard doesnt like the barton that is overclocked.. (a7v8x asus)

maybe later on i will upgrade into a better mobo but for now i will stay satisfied with my 2.3 ghz.. with my t-bred

grrr... i wanted to hit 2.5 at least... *shakes fist*

Do you think it's your USB crapping out? If so that could just mean your FSB has gone as high as it's going to go..

Was going to say the same. The Asus you listed isn't a bad mobo (mine crapped out instantly because the bios had the fatal Save & Exit problem).

2500mhz is high for an amd.

Also, if you're looking at replacing the CPU, look at buying an XP Mobile.. they're unlocked.. and use less voltage.

People have had phenomenal results with them.

im pretty sure about this, but the barton has a higher memory bandwidth, so it can shit from the ram quicker

they do use less voltage even at overclocked speeds compared to a desktop barton.

My Desktop 2800 did 200x12.5 @ 1.85v :)
My Mobile 2600 can do 200x12.5 @ 1.75v :D

That barton is still probably faster because of the cache

yea but the USB mouse is the only thing that DOESn't Work...

the wiresskeyboard stilll works, and the rest of them still work.. but just the mouse...

so i m going to try it again tomorrow...

and the more reason why i think it's the mobo is becuz the motherboard will just *freeze* when i put it over 200 fsb.. (at the bios settings)

so i can't do much with the multiplier set at 11...

I m goin to try it at 13 x 188 again..

and when i actually get it to work at 13 x 1.88... the windows reconginizes it as 2.07 ghz AMD 3200xp when it should be 2.44ghz

and the asus site says support up to 2.4+ so idunno.... on the overclockers database.. peoeple seem to ge very good overclock with the nf7-s v2...

Should have grabbed a Mobile 2500+ and a nf7-s while you were at it. You would be a happy camper.

My mobile 2500+ does 2700mhz:)

isn't mobile that much diff from a regulat unlocked barton if you up the voltage just the same?

I think this barton has the potential to go very high if i get a 400fsb compatiable mobo...

grrrrr.. i hate shopping.,. i always go out of control...

Ok, I could be terribly wrong about this (to be honest, I wouldn't truly know,) but it occured to me to wonder if when it was overclocked it started putting out more EMI in the frequencies the mouse uses. Maybe if you try reconnecting enough times until it's on another? Ok, just a thought. Oh, and my motherboard has the spread spectrum option, which I understand to be a bad thing (apparently it causes more clock skew and therefore more unstability if not properly cooled etc if I understood correctly) and this supposedly limits the EMI, I think. Then again, my manual was VERY vague, so it might just mean it makes the CPU run better with bad EMI from other things... d-: Oh well, just throwing out ideas that are worth a shot anyway.
