I've been trying to build a new box for some time now. It shouldn't be this hard.

I've been through a CPU. I've replaced the motherboard. I've double checked the RAM to make sure it's OK. And *nothing* works, I swear - I am not meant to own a new computer. After receiving the replacement for my DOA CPU, it still does not boot. I've replaced basically everything in this stupid box and it still will NOT boot. It won't even POST.

am I hated? Is there some weird conspiracy against me? Fucking hell - It should not be this goddamn hard to build a computer. I've replaced basically every necessary part and it still won't even POST!

Here are my specs:

Abit IC7G
P4 3.0 w/ HT 800mhz fsb
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Corsair XMS DDR PC3200

and the usual BS

This thing wont even post. I don't know what's wrong with this, but somebody help me, PLEASE.

Try installing just a few parts first (like just the mobo and cpu) and see if it works (vid card too for display). Then drop in the RAM and see if it works. Then the other parts one by one.

It might not work, but maybe you really are cursed. Or your PSU sucks.

Just tried an old PCI vid card I have through the same mobo and I got the same error - WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!

You have another computer to test it in? Try certain parts in certain computers....

It might be your video card...

A Computer will not post with out a live video card.... FYI

Tried 2 different vid cards - 1 PCI, 1 AGP

Still gives me the same fucking error

And I can't find the goddamn manual, so I can't figure out what that error means! A single long POST beep, repeating, nothing on the monitor.

Is there a service that will take a PC, RMA whatever components need RMAing, and get it running no matter what, for a fee? This is fucking ridiculous.

I've been through so many fucking parts trying to get this thing to even show up on a monitor that I can't even find the manuals any more. If you're in Houston and you want to earn some cash - get this box to work. I don't care what you have to RMA, get this stupid fucking box to work, with my components, and you'll get $100 for it. I've got a legit copy of Windows ready to rock, and everything else. It should not be this fucking hard.

Try different ram. I can't get XMS3200 to work in my IC7 either. I ended up having to go with Mushkin LVL2

if I had any other DDR RAM to try, I would

but I'm hesitant to start buying parts just to see if it works

have you tried the pc out of the case, like on a wood table or something maybe its a grounding issue with the mobo (just a thought)

anyway sorry, and good luck

This is why I didn't buy an abit board.

I would suggest stepping away from this for a while. Go to Circuit City and buy some $20 Kingston DDR 'Value' RAM. That way, you won't have a huge budget hit for RAM, and you can keep it for backup ram. :) I would suggest doing that anyway, especially if you are going to run your RAM hard, whatever you are going to end up running.

Do you have any friends living near you with machiens? I'd suggest doing a part out swap... Take one part out of your system and put it in their system, then try it... Keep going until you find out what's wrong. Or, you can try a different brand of RAM in your machine, from a friend's machine...

so when you try to boot do you have the ide installed at all? this sounds very similar to a problem i was having with a macine...come to find out the jumper on the hdd had to be set to cable select on master/slave.

just trying to help you out.

I bought this board to replace an Asus P4P800 that wouldn't run either ;)

I'll try some cheapo DDR RAM later today to see if it changes anything.

Starting to sound like a Problem with the build quality not the hardware;)...

Hard To Understand after chatting with ya...

Just a question... but is it even turning on? Is there power going thru? lol just look at the CPU fan and check to see if its rotating. (When I built my first computer I forgot to plug in the jumpers on the mobo!)

nope, he said it's not that (I chatted with him on AIM), asked the same question, he said Fans work...He said he replaced the CPU/RAM, etc...Which is why I said, it sounds like a build problem, fiddle through the manual, there might be something that needs to be done...

If this happened before, get it built...;)

I had the exact same problem when building a dual Xeon 3.06ghz system. The problem lies in the ram. I bought some cheapo generic ram at first, and had the exact same problems you are having. Try using some Kingston, as it has very very few compatability issues.

Hell yes. Reset cmos and put the mobo on a piece of cardboard, not the static-bag. Mobo, cpu, 1 stick ram, vid card. Boot.

BTW, have you made sure the PSU is OK?

Edit: Also, one long beep for award bios indicates a memory problem. Reseat the memory module, change the location of the stick, if you have 2 sticks try each seperately and in different slots. Try a known-good stick. And reset the damn cmos.

im putting my money on the ram.... also make sure you have the front panel connections right...

this happens to me all the time with my ic7....its the ram retention clip thingies. After you push in one side of the ram until the clip is up, when you go to do the other, it unseats the side you pushed in first, but it manages to leave the clip up so it looks like it is still in. Push both sides of the ram down FIRMLY, use a ton of pressure. I did the exact same thing as you. I will bet $100 this is the problem.

btw I expect $20 if it works:D

Hope you got it running :) , but if not I think it would be a good idea to post more details as to what you have tried..for example..

-replaced mobo
-tried different PSU
-tried different RAM

that will help people here try to help you figure out what part is defective...

On a side note I ran into a similar problem with some pos shuttle(no not those little cases) motherboard that my buddy grabbed from microcenter. I went through two of these mobos and still no POST. Went and got a gigabyte mobo and it POSTed fine. The reason I switched mobo brands was because a search on google revealed a bunch of people with the same problem with this brand of mobo. Some said with a 400watt psu they got it to post but I decided to just get a different mobo.

good luck
