Ok scratch the whole 8800gtx sli thing I was thinking about... I rather save the money up for something else.. what I would like to do, is to have a single 8800gtx. Would my 500 watt psu work ok? I know the requirements for the 8800gtx is 450 watts... but is that for the card alone or the whole system?

I don't see your PSU listed. What do you have?

Those number (450w) are for the entire "average" system. If it's a good quality name brand model and not an OEM type that comes "free" with a case (or just plain cheap), you will likely be fine, as long as you are not overclocking and running lots of hardware.

Almost any 500w PSU can push a GTX... A GTX system (RAM, Mobo, 1-2 HD's, maybe a CCFL and some extra fans) should use (at most) around 300w of real power under load. Even with a generic PSU's inneficiencies, and factoring in cold-starting current, you should be ok.
