OK I'm buying a Lian Li PC-75B within the next month and I'm putting together a list of mods. The first thing i want to do is cut all the fan holes out to optimize airflow. Was going to add the 2 rear fans on the top, make 2 of the CD-rom Drive bays into a 2x80mm fan holder :), and maybe even the 3x 3.5 drive bays into a 80mm fan holder also.

The big question i have tho is...
I'm also going to replace the 4 stock fans with Vantec Stealth fans at $8.99 a piece (thats $81). How loud would 9 of these sukkaz be?

And the main reason for so many is because i want to have as close as possible "equal pressure", to aquire the best cooling.

And all of you water cooling people, I dont have the money nor nerves ;) so dont suggest plz

THANKS!

what ever you do take pics.. because im getting the same case...

the stealth fans dont make much noise at all.. but if you have like 9 of them im not sure.. I have one of the 60mm on my hsf,

If i was going to have that many fans in one case thou, on off switches or a rehostat(sp?)

other than that.. sounds sweet!

Yeah 9 fans sounds like overkill to me... but yeah take pictures for sure.

I believe that for every time you double the fans, you add three dB's

So...if each fan was 21 dB's (just for example) then...

2 fans = 24 dB
4 fans = 27 dB
8 fans = 30 dB
16 fans = 33 dB and so on...

(please correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that's how it works.)

Wait off untill you get the case to buy new fans. The stock fans in all of the Lian Li's I have owned have pretty good airflow with pretty low sound intensity. Never annoying, and low pitch.

What I would do is replace all of your intakes with Vantecs if you want, make sure to keep positive pressure if you have dusty air.

You can also construct a fan controller for all of your fans, or buy one if youre not ambitious.

#1 mod, get yourself a 120mm blowhole. Easy mod, helps out alot. Next would be to remove the stock stamped grills out of the back exhuast fan slots. Beyond that its all about what you want to do/setup in your case.

I dont see how 9X4=81.... Could you expand on this issue?

Hah, I agree. 9*4 is 36. Presuming that is how much it'll cost.

Thanks guys, big help!

The $81 was refering to the fans mentioned above in the post along with replacing the 4 stock ones, sorry guess that was worded bad :(

I've been doing a lot of research and im thinking of added at least 2 80mm to the case then wait and see what happens from there. Also adding this in a blowhole :) http://store.yahoo.com/directron/172mm.html
which will be hooked up to my Thermaltake 4 fan Controller. I'm guessing I want it in the center of the case on the top right?

sorry for the double post but i was looking at the 172mm fans and had an idea... What if I put 2 172mm fans on the top of the case for exhaust, then have 2 front and 4 rear fans doing intake. Also I would take my PSU apart and reverse all the fans to also be intake, the PSU is going to be mounted upside down so the hot exhaust from the PSU will be going up towards the fans anyway. Let me know if u think this will give me a good cooling option, if so I'm probably going to go with it :)

i somewhat doubt that that you can fit so many large fans in that case, but if you do, pics ;)

Y the heck do i need that? Takes up to much space for 1 fan. Also a bit pricey, as is the 172mm fan i was looking at... ($40 is the best i can find)

I was thinking more a long the lines of converting 2 of the cd-rom drives to hold 2 x 70mm fans with Tt 70mm grills (only ones i can find)

Because its pretty, duh. :p

those el cheapo fans are to noisy for me, mainly because i am going to have 6 in my case...

I really want to know if this would be a good setup?
172mm exhaust on top (blowhole) about 260cfm
then have 6 x 80mm silent fans as intake (2 front, 4 rear)
also i would reverse the flow of the power supply fans to intake also.

To me it would seem that all the cool air would come in, over the harddrives and CPU mainly and then all the heated air would go out the top. Am I missing anything... I know i definately want to put the 172mm fan on a controller so its not sucking components out of the case ;) but mainly i want to try to have a positive case pressure, being as close to equal as possible

Thanks

well because if u look at the layout of the Lian Li PC-75B the PSU is mounted upside down for 1 and i have 2 fans on my PSU, one on bottom and one on back. So this means in this case its ass backwards. So the hot air from PSU will go up to top of case. No to add onto this there are 2 fans below PSU and 2 fans Above, both will be sucking in. So the top 2 fans will push the hot air forward and right out the blowhole. (HOPEFULLY) Follow me? To me that would be better than, have it exhausting hot air that will go into all 4 fans at the back of the case and OVER MY CPU which is what i dont want most of all

i dont think that reversing your PSU would do any good, it is already at the top of your case so it should do like the other fans at the top and exhaust the hot air

that 172mm exhaust tho....can u show us a pic or something cuz i have never heard of such a thing, and w/ 260 cfm? u sure thats gonna be quiet?

i would recommend two 120mm fans at the top, preferibly these http://www.svc.com/en12vasphipe1.html

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but the 172 mm fan is
Sorry, this item is sold out, No ETA.

it's been like that for months, i doubt they making any more, well then, tough luck

ok as for the PSU look at the case again, I am going to have 2 80mm fans above the PSU sucking in to help move the hot air towards the fans that may be created around the top of the PSU. I still think if i leave the PSU as is then all the hot air coming from it is going to go out my case and right down and into my case onto the CPU which is a NONO! I'm running a 2500+ at 3200+ so it runs pretty hot.

As for the fan being out of stock i found 1 hear, I would just have to soldier my own molex. No problem there.
