Alright Im going to try and explain this to the best of my ability. I have two computers, one is downstairs one is upstairs. I recently got a wireless internet connection from CSI.net. So they set it all up on the computer downstairs (which I should say isn't really mine its my dad's). So anyway everything works fine on my dad's computer. For awhile I was just taking a 50ft CAT5 cable and plugging it into the modem, this would require unplugging my dads. After awhile this stopped working...my Network connection would say network cable unplugged and the only CAT5 that would work was the one the CSI.net guys used. Well so I call CSI and they tell me that they usually use crossover cable and that could be why my CAT5 doesn't work, (but why did it work for the first month?) because its not crossover its just CAT5. Well I ask him about sharing internet on two computers and tell him I have a Linksys 10/100 hub. He asks if it has an uplink port and I say yeah he says plug the modem into the uplink port then plug your computer and your dad's into the hub. Well this has worked great internet on both computers for the past couple weeks, then it starts the same BS..."network cable is unplugged" when its plugged in. Well anyway I fixed that problem. So now my network is getting detected but I still have no internet...it says cannot renew IP. Now wtf is that about? Again I've tried command prompt manually release/renew IP and everything. I've called CSI, resetting modem, unplugging HUB turning off computers then unplugging modem...Plugging back in modem then HUB then turning on the computer still I have no luck whatsoever. I mean what else can I try??? I know nothing about this network stuff. Someone Please Help me...I want my internet back...I mean we are gonna buy a wireless router this weekend the Linksys 802.11g...I also would like some help in setting that up will it give me these gay problems too? Sorry such a long post I just felt I had to explain to the fullest details.
