Man do I feel dumb I cant remember any of this stuff...anyway how can I tell if a barton is locked? are the L1 bridges all JOINED or CUT? Mine are joined and it wont let me change a thing, EVEN WITH A WIREMOD, so it might be something deeper than the proc (a7n8x 1005 bios is good right?) please help, i feel such a noob but im confused and tired.

HAHAHAH got it

yes I did have a locked one, the second from right L5 bridge indicates that...so I just popped it out again, pulled out the wires, scraped off a little on each side of the channels, and filled with graphite! Popped it back in quickly, rebooted, set it to 12.0x166, and it rebooted with "unknown CPU" at some speed! AWESOME!

tomorrow though I gotta redo the AS3, at idle before it was getting 111 as opposed to like 80...damn reseating

/edit: now that I think about it i wanna change the settings a few more times, just to make sure...

NO NO NO the CPU speed is staying with a locked multi! but it reports unknown CPU! dammit I think i got the last L5 instead of the second to last! FUCKER!

heres a pic:

found it...

well that seems to be what I forgot (ive been sick for 3 days with nearly no sleep so I dont know how I managed to even do the L5 right :D) but what about:

Also, it is not good idea to open all L6 bridges at once because some motherboards have BIOSes that will change multiplier to L6 settings before POST.

dammit! so what the hell do I put it to?

ok I see it....im gonna set it to 12 when I get home. one sever, i can handle that

honestly does AMD SERIOUSLY think theyre going to start posting a profit if they pull this bullshit? nearly everyone who bought a barton 2500+ did so becuase THEY WERE ON A BUDGET and wanted a new proc, NOT because they were trying to cheap out of a higher model. no ones going to say "oh well I was going to buy a 2500+ and overclock but now I have to spend $120 more and get a 3200+" or "oh well I want to overclock but I cant guess Ill have to go buy a whole damn A64 motherboard proc and RAM combo", all it is doing is pissing us enthusiests off.

whiskey tango foxtrot, man.

You know what's funny about this whole locked Barton thing? Stock 2500+ is 166FSBx11, so you can simply increase FSB to 200 and that is already 3200+. No modding required... Just a thought... But I do understand the whole concept behind unlocking the multiplyer so you need not reply to this. :)

goddammit! apparantly I cut the wrong bridge so it thought that it was an MP..fair enough..but then since I cut the L6 its not happy, so i tried to cut the right bridge on L5 and its still not booting, althought im really nervous so I might be cutting it badly, and graphite might not be too happy with it. Im gonna go pick up a multimeter since I gotta run out anyway.

and madmike: it was at 3200+ but I want more!

well end of the saga...i finally got the damn thing to post again. its back to normal completly, nothing gained, nothing lost. oh well. next time ill just buy a mobile 2400+ ;)
