All compy sat my house are up and running F@H like CRAZY SON!

P4 running graphical client at 100% (Showing 50% cause of my leet HyperThreading skills)

Celeron 2.8 (Running single console client at 100%, I plan on killing this processor... just because its a Celeron)

TL56 Dualcore Lappy: Running 2 console clients at 45% each


AND! This week I start ordering parts for my Q6600 build. WOOO HOOO

Q6600: Gigabyte Mobo: 3 gigs DDR2800 (Awesome deal from PNY... at least I think its PNY, about 19 bucks per stick) the cheapest 9600, 500gb HDD. Snagging a pretty sweet case for coolin, an Xoxide.. don't know the name, ill link later. And will def get another CPU cooler... I might plan on overclocking, I am a pansy though, so who knows. I plan on running XP Pro, and might dual boot DSL or Ubuntu... if I'm brave enough.

OH: Instead of a 9X Nvidia card... should I get an ATI card and run the GPU client?

Is it stable enough to run, pause when I'm gaming, and leave on all night (assume proper cooling is setup)?
I know any folding is good folding however... Price for Price, Performance for Performance, should I stick with a Decent 9x, or switch to a comparable ATI and run the GPU at night/work?

I wanna kill cancer yo! And recently... my Dad is going to the doctor on monday to have a "section" or not so cool stuff removed form his chest. He didn't tell me the full story, but it wasn't scar tissue, fat cells... and he found out on Fri, scheduled for Mon... so I'm not sure whether to be worried, or, if the surgery is going to dominate and be done with it.
 
I would not waste the money on a gpu to fold on. If you were planning on buying an ATI that happens to support a client ok, but don't do it for the sole purpose of folding on it.

Honestly if these are pure folding machines the cheapest piece of crap you can find works best! :)

 
New machine will be 22 hours a day folding 2 hours gaming. During the week.

As a newbie folder with limited cores, I was very pleased to find the GPU2 client. My main machine already had an HD3870 in it and I am able to get ~98 points out of it every 75 to 85 minutes. I combine this with one instance of the latest console beta and scoring just a bit higher than when I tried just the SMP client alone on this dual core box.

Just keep in mind that if you bought it strictly for folding and they dropped support out of the clear blue you'd be mighty pissed. Ask everyone left holding an x1900.

I'm not recommending the OP do what I do, I was merely posting about my positive experiences with the GPU2 client. I've learned to no longer become pissed during situations like you describe. These days, hardware is cutting edge today and obsolete tomorrow. I buy what I need for today and, if it becomes obsolete in two months, so be it. I am glad I have a supported GPU though. The 97 or 98 points, depending on WU, each 75 minutes really makes a difference in my daily totals. I don't think I'd have the score I have now if I didn't have the GPU.

I can't wait to buy my first quad on Friday though. :D

Thats true, but a quad can still be used to fold single processor units if the SMP client goes away or deadlines tighten to the point you can't make them anymore. I'd still consider a quad a good investment that'll last a bit more than a couple months. :D
