This is getting out of hand, and im really getting sick of it. If the problem isnt fixed then ill just stop folding.

i feel you 100%

i say we all rally as a team... fix it or we all leave... becuase im sure they would miss the output from our team...

and then just change our official project from F@H to something else

which would be a pita, and i have a lot of borgs that i probably couldent get to... but im tired of it, tired of hard-locks, tired of "cant download work unit" just fricken tired

I'd like to second the FAD project. I love the built-in que capability. Runs nice and smooth!

I really think someone should post ot the folding-community.com forums to request better remote administration capabilities...:)

How well do these alternative medical DC projects support SMP machines? I'm inquiring about UD, FAD and DF.

UD doesn't! There is no plans to either! Unfortunately, that is about the only drawback to UD.

I thought a ways back someone had posted a way to SMP the UD client in the UD forum ? (of course I could just be old and senile)

Well i posted on the folding forums. And if it isnt resolved ill move elsewhere. So we shall see what happens.

MF's problem has got to be related to Stanford's new "performance fraction" since it's all way too coincidental that his machines stopped receiving work at the same time as the performance fraction stuff was put into place. I bet that after a simple change on their end it will all start working again. I wouldn't change anything and just let everything run like it is to see if they can get it worked out in the next couple of days.

And I remember the day Kewjoe went forth from our little [H]ard corner of the world to spread his news.
Just like Bilbo Baggins, all he needed was some encouragement and a push in the right direction.

Shameless plug :p

I think im going to give up on folding. I am at my wits end with this project. All of my machines are folding but look at my production. I have not changed a thing since the outage i had last week but still i am turning in pitiful numbers. If stanford cant get their act together then im done. Its not worth the hassle of having to check on my machiens everyday to see if they are producing what they should be. I dont have that kind of time.

Please consider a different project if you are going to quit. "I am not here to blow UD up your @ss lieutenant" - Famous quote from TopGun (Jester)

But please consider one of the other projects. I have noticed that Brian Taylor is testing out UD. Maybe talk to him to see how his testing is going.

Wait a few days before deciding. It takes a while, especially for some of the really big Gromacs work units to complete. Your efforts are not wasted. F@H is really about the only project that has published major papers on their work with more to come. Hang in there if possible. ;)

I have been running UD on my machine at work for about 3 months. It's been running on my servers for about 6 weeks. Seems pretty solid, never had any signs of a problem at all and FireDaemon hides it pretty well. The only downside from my perspective is the initial set up time. You have to give every machine a name and such on their site, which may not seem like a big deal, but even if it only takes 3 minutes per machine thats more than a full day for me. My boss doesn't care if I run projects, but I doubt he would be pleased if I spent a bunch of my work time maintaining it.

It appears that almost everyone who hasn't added new machines lately, is experiencing a "loss" in production. Look at all the top producers and you will see a similar downward trend in their production lines. It is not only you. Stanford has implemented a new way of alloting WUs to computers with a formula based on a performance benchmark. This recent implementation of WU distribution has been discussed in another thread.

Although Stanford stated that it shouldn't affect the stats all that much, it's probably the primary reason most of us are seeing a reduction in production. If it is indeed true, it is across the board. No member, or team for that matter, is unaffected. Aside from your technical woes, you should still be witnessing a loss in PPW. I am, and I can think of no other explanation.

Little tip...
If you want to by-pass the performance thing, just add the -advmethods flag... ;)

Yes i would consider switching to another project if i have to stop folding. I will certainly look into some of the other projects and see what i can do.

Apollo, If there is a new way of computing things on stanford's side that is fine with me, but my numbers are WAY down. Not just a little bit, but as of right now i am down about 10,000 points per day. If that is due to this new system then i am done with it. I dont fold just for points, but points is a good way of measuring machines productivity(at least it should be).

Brian Taylor: you have the mass-installer?

There is one available from UD which would allow you to install stuff with scripts.

MidnightFreak[H],
I too have been experiencing problems with Stanford. In the past few days I've added nearly 10Ghz, and my production has been stable!:(

The problem I'm having is that my systems keep trying to connect to server .150 and never get through. (I seem to recall that you were having similar problems with .151.) My systems try and try, with one hour between attempts:mad: , and eventually get another server. I'm beginning to wonder if the network of my garden is blocking connection to the IP address, as discussed in the forums.http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?p=55362#55362

F@H seems to be the best science. Your contributions are immense. Please give them some time to get their **** together.

ya all the production drops seem to be related to servers @ stanford

ya freaks production seems to have returned back to normal thankfully... and mine too! :D
