Oh no...help?

I think I might have messed up pretty good here.... I finally completed my first SMP work unit, but something is wrong....

This is the log from my 4400+ machine running the *nix Folding CD.



That's it... it's not doing anything.... at all. Shouldn't it be sending the results in? And the thing is, it says there that it is "Writing 5518696 bytes of core data to disk..."

How is that possible? There is no disk in this machine to write to. It's running off of the CD and there is no hard drive in the machine, only a single DVD rom. No flash drive, no nothing.

What do I need to do now? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to see this work go to waste.. it took almost 36 hours to complete this...

It should have writen the data to a ram drive.
I've found if its going to freeze then it happens at the "Will end MPI now" line
Be warned it can take 5-10 mins between finishing the run and uploading the data back to Stanford.

Well... so much for patience.

It's been over half an hour, and now I'm greeted with this....



It's still not doing anything, and it doesn't seem to have sent anything in. It's not getting a new work unit... and I don't know if I should restart the machine or what.....

I've never run the nix CD client but .................
Can you find/see the work folder & the queue.dat file.
If you can then save them both somewhere before shutting down the client.
That way you can restore your data if anything goes wrong with the restart.
If you also save the machineindependent.dat file you can then safly move the whole work unit to another comp to see if it will upload from there.

Yeah, I can see the work folder and the queu.dat file. The machineindependent.dat is there as well.

So what steps do I need to follow, exactly, to move this work unit to another machine and upload it from there?

Well, interesting.. there is a Backup of the WU that I can save to another machine right on the Diskless Folder page... so I can save that to another machine, but I still have no idea how to upload it....

To upload from a different machine you need to move a minimum of the work folder + the other 2 files over.

What I'd do to transfere data is just cut-paste the whole FAH folder between boxen.
Then open a terminal window and navigate to the moved FAH folder.
Start the client with ./FAH6.exe -smp
It should now upload-download work.
If it does then stop it, move it back to where it came from and restart it.

Thanks.. I'll give that a shot and see how it goes.

I'm likely going to ditch the whole cd bit and just install a hard drive and an OS and be done with it.... It really makes no sense that it would just hang like that....
