Well I ordered two 300GB OEM seagate sata drives from newegg, and during all the excitement of installing them while i was reconnecting the sata cable to my raptor drive i applied just a little too much pressure and snapped off the restraint bar that keeps the dam cable in place. After 30 mins of haggling the cable against the free floating pins i managed to get a boot, and im in the process of backing up everything. I already have a backup point from 2 days ago but just want to make sure i dont miss anything critical. Luckily I checked western digital and my drive is under warranty until 2011, as long as i play dumb i should have no problems getting the new drive, and they do cross shipping! YAY :D . Just hope to god nothing moves that cable, even the slightest movement could ruin all my finnangling and hard work. Im dam amazed the dam thing even booted, but im not wasting any time (im on my second computer btw :p ). Anyway yea, why don't they redesign the sata data/power connectors? they are clearly flimsy crap that don't hold in place, would a clip be soooo hard to design? Something like the 24pin power connector to the motherboard would be awesome, just hate having the cable disconnect while doing something simple like. . moving the case. Enough rant, i have to get away from my station and make sure the dam dog doesnt go near my computer. WISH ME LUCK (will post pics after)

by the way, does anyone know if backed up images of OS drives will work? Assuming the backup process actually copies EVERYTHING? I would hate to have wasted all that effort for nothing :(

Since it is a WD drive it should allow secure connect. If it does, you don't even need to RMA the drive.

Both WD Raptor® and WD Caviar® SE Serial ATA hard drives feature the SecureConnect design enhancements. The connector on the hard drive includes additional housing material around the SATA connector and a guide receptacle for added connection strength to the cable.

I had the SAME problem about a month ago, i snapped off the little black piece and just had a few copper wires sitting there, needless to say i got angry rather quickly.

I didn't go the RMA route, rather since is was a old, and small drive i threw it out of my car window on the highway ( no other cars were around) man it was nice...it was an office space moment.

Slightly bend the pins so they contact the SC cable, the cable wont move once it is in place and is about as secure as your average 4-pin moltex power connector.

i read this can reduce process speeds, kinda would kill the point of having a raptor drive wouldn't it?

Reduce process speeds? Electrically it is the same as any other SATA cable. It is just mechanically different. There will be ZERO performance difference between a SC cable and a regular SATA cable.

well considering i already went through the trouble of backing up both partitions on the drive, and the fact there are possible future issues if i leave the drive as is, i think i will just RMA it, since shipping will make the cost about the same, ill feel better with a new drive.
