i got it all over the place....how to clean?need to clean? its on the pins of the cpu too...

Pure isoproply alcohol. Beyond that, use any small tool you can that won't bend or break anything. Anything like that in between pins would be a bitch to get out, but if you're careful you could do it.

what kind of thermal paste? If it's arctic silver, or if it looks silver colored, that's bad. If it's white, it probably won't short.

But either way clean that stuff off! Isopropyl alchohol is good as long as you get a high % (like 90%+) alchohol. Also, acetone and MEK work very well, I think mineral spirits leaves a film, so don't use that.

i found this mainboard cleaner stuff, its for electronix.. well i cleaned it up and tried putting the cpu back in with the watercooling koolance block and broke the black retainer... the part that holds the cpu fan into place... i cant just throw away this ic7-max3 it cost 220 bucks!! i need a new black plastic thingy... anyone have an old board that takes pentium4s? i need the black rectangle thing....damn such a small cheap part is all it takes to RUIN a perfectly good mainboard... well im compless now...great...

If you are compless how are you posting? :p

And some places (I think newegg) will sell you the retention frame (lil black thingy) if not just get a HSF of waterbock that mounts through the board

Don't buy a replacement P4 braket. That's dumb. This is the perfect excuse to get a new aftermarkets HSF unit. SP-94 would be great. If you are using an IC7-MAX3 then you obviously want to OC, so at least get some good aircooling and not a stock Intel HSF. blah...

too bad he's already watercooling or the sp-94 might be a good idea

cant the water block be screwed to the motherboard? sounds like a better idea to me... more secure... i bet its just a bracket or somthing that makes it do the intel bracket thingie

Man I was going to say something like that. To late on my part. :p

As ryuji said, can the block be attached via mounting holes or does it have to use the retention frame?
