Hey guys, sorry more troubles- any ideas?

RAM: corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600
GPU: GeFORCE 8800GS

OS : XP x64

An hour ago, the power went off in the whole house thanks to a thunderstorm, but I rebooted, restarted, and everything was fine (on the PC I listed, the one with the issue here). Then about an hour later, while doing a scan with spybot and just browsing the internet Firefox quite out all it's windows. When I tried to reopen firefox just thinking I closed something by accident I got the "Cannot open because Windows is shutting down" . So the Computer forced shutdown, went to the windows screen and everything. I thought this was a power issue, maybe related to the T-Storm. Though, now the computer boots up the Mobo screen and the bios, but when Windows should start up it's just black. I want to be hopeful that the hardrive didn't fry somehow... and I'm positive there were no viruses on the computer or anything that could be really harmful. On the select boot order menu the HDD does show up though. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks guys.

boot from the windows CD, go to recovery console

type (hit enter after each one)

fixboot
fixmbr

That should be a step in the right direction

Ah alright, now I've got to try to find/remember the Admin pass. Damn. I've already tried to do the Windows setup and Shift+F10 when installing devices comes up, but after copying files and rebooting the installation didn't continue.

Ok! Well, I did that (fixboot, fixmbr) and the systems up and running, nothing appears to be wrong with it.

I still would want to know, what might have been the cause for this? a volt fluctuation?

yeah, it could have been a little spike which caused your computer to turn off without shutting down properly which can lead to data corruption,

Good to hear that you got it running again though, its always a little scary when you can't get on your computer.
